I personally love it. If they had kept the old ATB, it would be a modern gaming joke. The only reason AAA games in the past could get away with it was because they were focused on the cinematic effects of the game. In an age where that's standard, they have to actually be modernized in what is considered good combat- not turn by turn.

I liked turn by turn for FF XIII

I never really liked FF7 but this one I will try for sure. At least, I got me interrested.

I personally would have wanted they kept the turn based system. But to be quite honest, it is looking really good.I need to see more, since what they showed was very small(gameplay wise), but since Nomura is directing it, I have faith in the game

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Looks very close to Advent Children quality.
Can switch characters.
The combat UI looks very very nice.

I love it. And this is coming from someone who played FF7 way back in 1998.

I would've preferred the ATB combat system, but this I guess this isn't too bad. I was already expecting this to be an ARPG like FFXV, so I wasn't too disappointed.

I don't see how going from turn based to action is progress, it is a design choice. I liked Secret of Mana and Final Fantasy on the SNES. I never thought FFVI should be like Mana because that's the future.

My guess is this will help the game have wider appeal, but alienate some of the core fanbase that's been begging for it for two decades.

It looked amazing. I actually like FF XIII's battle system because of how fast and epic fights looked, so I'm looking forward for this one. That said, I'm liking the tone and atmosphere of the game less and less. I'm seriously fed-up with these ultra edgy "too cool" j-pop looking characters. Definitely felt a change in the characters too (what have they done to Barret!?)

It's OK for a game to be silly and goofy at times, FF VII had a good balance of comedic and serious moments.

Whole game looks pretty Nomura, which i do not like.

Combat only, i always liked ATB itself, random encounters not so much. It was a bit simple for turnbased systems, not to say flat, but still deeper than many modern systems.

You can switch between character as-of-now so that's pretty cool
