It gets a passing grade for showing FFVIIR gameplay, I just expected some more infos and maybe cutscenes.

They didn't even mention PS2 during the entire presentation because it's already a done subject. Games will slowly trickle out, and they'll cost $9.99 to $14.99 a piece. I mean, PS2 was covered a couple days ago.
As for the conference, I rate it about 8.5/10 for announcements. Ni no Kuni 2, Ace Combat 7, Ni-Oh, FF7 Remake, Yakuza 0, more Ratchet & Clank, more Battleborn with open beta details, good looking indies, and more. It was great for game announcements. I personally wasn't expecting a bunch of megatons like everybody else seemed to, so I enjoyed what I saw. I mean, c'mon, it seemed like people were expecting a new God of War, two completely new IP reveals, and the announcements of a dozen remakes and continuations of dead series. It isn't Sony's fault that you are completely incapable of keeping your expectations in check.
In terms of presentation, I give the conference about a 7/10. It started and ended strong, but the VR portion was really poorly done, while the Capcom portion dragged on way too long for a single game that is already well covered and into development with a release date only two months out. I appreciate that they consolidated the indie portion, and that they at least had a strong closer in place by having Ni no Kuni 2 as the penultimate announcement. I think they hurt VR though with this presentation, and it will take a lot of work leading up to launch to convince us that VR won't become the next platform for lazily developed indies and small scale projects.

That presentation single handedly convinced me that VR will launch with 90% shovelware and basically be Kinect 2.0, where itll take a few years of mastering the technology for there to actually be compelling experiences on it. Still, Ace Combat 7, Ni No Kuni 2 and Ni-Oh were pretty nice, but the rest were games that we have known for ages. Star Wars, Destiny, Call of Duty? Overall, I think having 3 conferences so close back to back was a bad idea. Instead of 3 they should have stuck with only one succinct but packed with reveals people would care about. There was literally 50 minutes of indie there... |
The only difference I see is if VR can also have film functionality along with games. Movies always seem to be wanting a new format to push old films. The porn industry has to be thinking this could be a way to make ton of money.
The ig question of when and how much still hangs over it to me.

I found it to be rather dreadful to be honest.
There were great reveals, like Ni No Kuni 2, FF7 RE gameplay, and the Ratch and Clank gameplay video, but I felt it was dragged out way too long with games that hardly seemed interesting. VR was pretty terrible to watch as well. This was the first time I watched a PSX conference, and I had high expectations, since Sony delivers well in them, but this was awful. I really think they should consider shortening it. Also, where was No Man's Sky, or The Last Guardian?
I don't think I will watch another one of these events in the future. I'll just tune in for full summaries of these.
4/10

goodness where does this sentiment come from? This conference was on point when it came to speed, pretty much slowing at only 2 points: CoD/ BF and VR demo. They talked about 40 games in less than 2 hrs.

Well, I watched the whole thing from start to finish, and I found myself growing tired of it. I wanted to stop, but kept up with it, waiting for some big announcements. By the end of it, it didn't feel worth watching at all.

Its their 4th major conference of the year and in December. Expectign there to be big announcements littered all over the place is jsut wildly wrong expectations by you and anyone else. Sony announced games they are making or working on helping to bring to PS/ the West. 3rd parties announced games. Got updates on a bunch of known games. Some new stuff on VR. |
Well, I am under the impression that Sony has a lot of great announcements for people to get excited over throughout the whole year, so that set my expectations high. Usually I would keep my expectations in check, but Sony seems to be an exception. Also, I think their E3 got people on cloud 9, so I figured there could be some more great surprises to keep it going, like the revival of more dormant IPs, like Crash, Legend of Dragoon, etc. So I suppose that is my fault for setting the bar too high.

Bit disappointed some of my more outlandish predictions didn't happen but I really feel people are to harsh on the conference.
2016 is the year ahead and that is what you have to mark out of 10. What you have then is a very stacked year ahead with several big trade-shows. With that in mind you would't expect Sony to blow its load prematurely, we have seen how this worked out this year particularly for some companies I won't mention.
So I rate the 2016 line-up 10/10. A large quantity of titles across a broad spectrum of genres from AAA to indie, mass market to niche.
Highlights for me include; Street Fighter V, Tekken 7, King of Fighters XIV , No Man Sky, Gravity Rush R and 2. Ni-Oh (loved Onimusha back when I was a teen), Destiny expansion, Horizon (really my most anticipated) and TLG.
That is without mentioning PSVR, Yakuza, Ni No Kuni II, Tomorrow Children, Wild..... I could go on till my hands cramp but I will not.
I think the gaming community is becoming intolerably demanding.
