Forums - Gaming - PS2 discs and digital classics not compatible on PS4 through emulator

I don't think this is true, this would be way too bad for people who bought games on ps3. Sony can't be that dumb and greedy.

I mean, it wouldn't be completely unreasonable. Even when it had PS2 parts in it, the PS3's emulator wasn't great. I expect many of the 'PS2 Classics' were slightly reworked for the PS3, so probably wouldn't work with the PS4's emulator. That said, if a game becomes available for the PS4's emulator and someone already owns the PS3 version, i don't think it's unreasonable to believe they should get it for free.

It depends on the emulator. If it's a generic emulator, they hust put the isos in place and repackage them. PCs are able to play isos from PS2, PS4 can do this, too.

Also for PS3 there was an emulator for PS2 - you can even play isos on it if your console is hacked. In the end, the "core" is the same, an iso.

So...are you saying I can play my SNES/N64 cartridges and my gamecube's discs on my WiiU?

Or my GBC/GBA cartridges on my 3DS?

Because if you can, please tell me how.

Your comparisons seem odd. PS4 is technically able to read PS2 discs. WiiU is not able to read cartridges.

Your first instinct was correct.  This is fake.  What is up rendering anyway.  The OP refuses to provide a source.  What the hell is 'Gameplay video 4'i.  If it wasn't emulation, it would be a new product and therefore have a 2015 copyright... not 2001.

The source is more or less GAF. The source is here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1150425

I mean, weren't PS2 classics just remasters on the ps3?

Nope.

Straight ports.

No higher resolution, no trophy support.

I should have said ports. What I meant is that they aren't being emulated. It's ported to run on PS3, not be emulated by it. I was referencing the OP because PS2 classics obviously won't work on ps4.

I don't own a ps3 but where is a ps2 classic different to a ps2 game you buy digitally on PSN for PS3?

As far as what games are available, i was thinking more in regards to licensing than the emulator itself. On the emulation side i'd very quiet surprised if there were many games that they can't actually run (just variations in how much they can improve it over the original).
