Forums - Sales - [UK] Black Friday week: 315k consoles sold, PS4 beats XB1 by ~5k

The kind where they sell a respectable number of home consoles.  anywhere between 50-120m.

That seems awfully vague of an answer, I was asking what position and you gave numbers, why avoid the placement?.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

With PS4's amazing lineup next year, next year will be a bloodbath if they are winning now.

I think placements are irrelevant and are generally used when fanboys are having their little battles.  All I want is a healthy market.  Nintendo will be happy if they go from 15m wii u's to 70m NX home consoles and won't care if they are first,  second or third.

134k is pretty good for a console that attracts so much hate, the xboxone might be second place but it is still in a healthy position. For a country the size of the uk those are teriffic sales for both consoles.

So, 42,000 total for all other consoles combined, I wonder how much is Wii U and how much is older consoles.

90% of this site and general fans seem to go via placement than numbers themselves, only those really into sales hardcore seem to go by numbers strictly. Nintendo as far as I know seems to be fine with how they are, they haven't been oozing with PR or messages of "we're super unhappy and dislike where we are at the moment" type messages which shows that for the longest time they don't seem to mind where they land, the other two seem to care exactly where they stand more than Nintendo will.

I'm hardcore into sales so that might explain why I'm not into placements.

The whole point of PR is to paint a good picture.  They're not going to continually go on about how upset they are to have gone from 100m to 10m currently.  They'll try and give off a positive vibe.

I think it goes without saying Nintendo are not happy where they currently are and want to get back into the big time.  Personally I hope they will.

I would think they aren't entirely happy with where they are but they are also in their own bubble and seem to run with what they have had for years, I mean the last time they tried to bring power was back during the GC era and that didn't do them favors which is why they seem to be going for lesser hw.

Personally I want them to make a huge comeback with the NX but I;m going to be real and just think it's going to be underpowered and not much of a comeback, this gen to me seems very much set in stone.

I agree. Powerful hardware is not the way to go.  The gamecube failed and the Wii U even harder.  The Wii was really week and cheap and look how it did.

The NX has to be cheap and I think it will.  The gimmick will probably be VR so let's just wait and see the announcement next year and we can predict then if it can succeed or fail.

Hopefully succeed.

Does the Wii U not exist in UK? Not even a mention of how bad it sold.

According to VGChartz, no. 315K is more than half of the Wii U's current userbase in the UK.

Frankly, Wii U has done terrible in Europe. X1 is considered a failure in Europe and has done significantly better.

Sorry, but as a punctilious person I have to point out this fact!
Technically, it hasn't... This conclusion is based on a illusory impression! The overall in Europe is higher than Wii u but just because of the UK... Xbox one is slaying the uk, it's not doing better than wii u in Europe essentially, you can't say that in general when the achievement  of xboxone is owing to just one european market, the biggest one... What if xbox one wasn't that extremely appealing in the UK?

Vgc has xbox one at 4.1m  and at the impressive 2.1m in the UK so the 51% of it's european sales total are from the U.K, which is a spectacular occurence!

Wii u is still above and doing better than xbox one in France and Germany, and from old leaks on gaf the same happens in Spain and Italy! Wii u has the infelicity of doing terribly in the UK, otherwise the european sales total would be equal with xbox one's!

Xbox one is  too much uk -centric...

1) UK is part of Europe. No need to exclude it for the sake of argument.

2) Its better to really do well in one European country instead of poor in all of Europe. Its also worth noting the X1's US numbers will eventually be higher than Wii U's global sales.

3) According to VGChartz the X1 is actually ahead of Wii even if we exclude the UK. Even though Wii U had a year head start and lower price.

4) In "Rest of World," X1 has sold 1.81 million versus Wii U's 690K. But hey, atleast Wii U has Japan. X1 has sold more consoles than Wii U outside of North America as well by the way.
