Forums - Nintendo - Fatal frame 5 (project zero MOBW) launch in the west has been handled terribly.

Fatal frame 5 has been treated woefully by NOA & NOE. There has been no physical release in north america and the only physical release in europe has been the overpriced limited edition. You might say buy it digital but at 16gb it is not download friendly (remember digtal sales are still in the extreme minority on consoles). And what about those of us that want a physical copy, that like cover art, a manual, a disc and a nice blue case? we are being screwed. how does nintendo ever expect games like this to suceed when it seems that they conceded defeat from the outset by not releasing a standard physical copy (Plus the only coverage they gave the game was a few seconds in a nintendo direct). No matter how much i want this game it is not worth  £75 ($120) and rising. Rant over.

Same. Still haven't gotten it and probably will never get it if it doesn't come physical. Not worth all the extra money.

I disagree. Knowing the series sales history and the realities of running a business, I believe Nintendo were very kind in giving fans the opportunity to play the game and I'm thankful for that.

Agree. Even if it doesn't sell well, a retail version would have been welcomed, speccially when they could have done only one print or two and probably had all the demand satisfied.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Yeah the way it was handled wasn't the best, but what do you expect? Them to waste a bunch of money advertising something that isn't going to sell well? The same is going to happen to Devil's Third as well.

The limited edition in europe was not overpriced. The inflated price you see now is because the version is limited. The normal priced copies are all sold out now and you may only get overpriced stuff from resellers (Scalpers?).
That's normal capitalism. If supply is limited and demand is high than the prices rise.

The high prices of the limited edition indicate that nintendo could have printed a little bit more. But that's always easy to say in hindsight. However the game is a niche game and if Nintendo had printed too much they would have lost money. I think NoE handeled the release of the game quite well. I saw the limited edition in shops for a short timeframe, so it was at least possible to get it, if you were interested. The price was 60 € which seems fair, if you consider the content.

Critizising NoA for no physical alternative is of course legitimate.

I think the collectors edition offered lots of stuff and was priced accordingly. Got no problems with the price at all.

While I do agree that Nintendo could/should have advertised this game better, you are right.

Fatal Frame series has little to no appeal in the west. PS2-era releases barely sold 150k each one. Even Spirit Camera sold terribly. Most people don´t even remember that the franchise still exists.

We should be glad that the game is available here.

By the way.... Nintendo is doing a bad job about advertsiment overall. No mention of the few third-party efforts for its console anywhere (Lego Dimensions, Guitar Hero Live, Rodea: Sky Soldier, Legend of Kay etc.....)

I still saw like seven of those SE's in the three different stores I went into yesterday.

While I agree the release wasn't handled very good, the franchise as a whole was never handled that well in the west. I'm surprised we're getting it at all. What Nintendo needs to do is reintroduce the franchise by re-releasing the older games for their systems.
