I would personally say to buy it, specially since this black friday you will find it by the cheapest price yet, some going even as low as 220 dollars. And with the whole backlog of Wii U games, and some upcomming ones, like Star Fox, Zelda U and specially XCX, it will be more than worth your money.
But, if you are unsure because of the NX, then wait until E3 to see what it is all about.By then we should have enough information about it, about what it is, and if it will have BC.You have already waited 3 years.6 months wont make much of a difference!
My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

There are good titles, but unfortunately there is no generation defining game like mario Galaxy, cod 4, and skyrim on last gen. The wii u's upcoming library is also looking bleak this coming year with a game releasing every 2-3 months. Nintendo typically has a decently sized direct on January so I would at the very least wait until then, but I recommend waiting for more info on the NX. The wii u is already seems to be on a downward trend, so I am not too hopeful on its future
If the log is there that you want, buy it. You don't know what the NX is, what its launch lineup will be, whether it will be backwards compatible. The games are there, there are good bundles. I would recommend the Smash + Splatoon bundle if you want either of those. That's the console + two of its best exclusives for $250 (available next week). And if you didn't play the Wii, you have a good backlog there as well. I got mine a month ago and it's been a blast. WWHD, Smash, Kart, Splatoon, and 3D World have been great and I've been able to go back and catch up on some games on the Wii I never played or never finished like Metroid Prime Trilogy, Super Mario Galaxy, and Skyward Sword. It's a good system that brings a diverse and unique set of exclusive experiences. If you have a PS4 or Xbone or powerful PC to handle your 3rd party needs, I strongly recommend the Wii U.
If the games available now haven't swayed you, wait until you can get it super cheap. Otherwise, you'll be disappointed.
For years, it was my favorite machine but without a steady diet of great games, I can't recommend it.
Who truly knows that NX will be BC with WIi U right? Sure, Iwata said that NX would absorb Wii U architecture but then again, he said it would be a totally new gaming concept. The NX could be a TI-30X HD with AV/HDMI cables for all we know. Get your $250 Wii U with Smash and Splatoon next week and have a bloody good time. That's my advice.
For once I don't think hardware backwards compatibility is a given for Nintendo's new hardware, so if you feel there are enough released and announced games to justify the purchase, I would wait for a good deal and jump in.
Yeah, at this point, I'd just wait for NX.
"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."
| elektranine said: I love how people automatically assume that the nx is a hardware platform. Nintendo themselves have never ever claimed so. NX could easily be a software platform much like steam or origin. What do you think the X in NX stands for? X = cross. Cross platform. Nintendo cross platform. Nintendo is going third party. |
Wasn't the reveal of the NX meant to secure people that Nintendo is still making consoles...? o:
