If they stop supporting 3DS n Wii U (which they will ofc), then it has to be 9th gen since the only option is a third pillar alongside 3DS n WiiU, which would be software suicide.

Yeah, they seem unable to keep up with 2 systems, a third pillar would bury them.

They will change the pillars. Instead of home console and handheld, it will be fusion platform and mobile. Way more efficient that way, now that technology is capable to pull it off.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

As I said before it would be a terrible decision for Nintendo. They will only sell half of the systems from then because one is literally useless.

No company with some sort of economic sense would do that.

How is one useless? A person will simply buy the one that fits them best which could be either or, or both. With similar librarys there is less incentive to get both yes, but there is still reason, obviously the inherent advantages handheld has over console and vice versa, and I'm sure Nintendo will also have exclusive software features, no I'm 100% certain they will with how well that's worked out for amiibo. Regardless, since they both have the same library it doesn't matter if one system canabalizes the other, each game will still be selling to their combined installbase giving them the highest possible chance of success.

Id say Mario Maker was lazy too. Reuses heaps of assets from past games.

Art Academy Atelier is just what it is....

Captain Toad was just the assets from Mario 3D World.

As for the situation yes these games are filler for Starfox and Zelda delays, but I would also say Nintendo really wanted to have at least 1 game a month released as opposed to 4-5 for the entire year. But frankly I think I would have preferred the latter.

I do really hope all this means they are putting more focus on the NX (both the portable and home consoles) and online services, rather than Nintendo still not able to cope with HD development......

The problem with this that next year is NX year. For them to reveal the NX, but then later announce Mario Galaxy 3 or whatever for Wii U would make no sense.

But we already have our big Mario and Legend Of Zelda game announced (and Mario being out for a few years). They could easily announce a new Metroid for Wii U and gain some excitement even if they announce the successor to Wii U.

I also expect a 30th anniversary LoZ show at E3 that will be around the same as their 25th in 2011 and Skyward Sword E3 (with Wii U reveal).

*Edit* I also felt it was of note to say that the project rainfall games weren't announced for release until after E3 2011 and reveal of the Wii U.

Not sure what you're getting at here, I mean of course the previous system already has all it's big games, unless you were to release a successor after a month lol. Sure they could easily announce Metroid U, but I have no idea why they would do that instead of putting it on a system that still a chance.

Yep and they'll announce Zelda U going multiplatform. :L

Weren't those just localizations of already made Japanese games?

even so, wii U is selling better this year than 2014(i didnt expected that), even without games with the importance of mario kart and smash. also, they are working more in previously annouced games and third party developers to keep the library going until the NX arrival. I and lots of wii U owners are ok with splatoon, mario maker, xenoblade, zelda, pokken and some other titles until the end of wii U life.

but i see your point and agree mostly.

But will NX be 9th gen? they are of course diminishing the 3DS and wii U support to focus in NX, but NX can be also 8th gen, so perhaps they are not done with 8th gen.

you didnt get.

im not considering 3DS and wii U to get support in the same time of NX. im considering they will stop supporting wii U and 3DS and focus on NX, starting in 2016. But it is not yet the time for 9th gen. NX would be competing with ps4 and xbox one, so NX is still an 8th console, despite 3ds and wii U are too.

So the Xbox 360 wasn't 7th gen until the Wii n PS3 released? lol it may be super early in arbitrary time rules, but it's still a successor to Wii U n  3DS, hence 9th gen. It'll eventually be competeing with PS5 n XboxTwo... maybe. :L

Its kinda sad that they're doing it this way, but it could be worse... Just look at Vita.

Still 3DS needs to die already, they focused on it for most of this Gen, and Wii U suffered because of that. If only they hadn't gotten cocky after the DS/Wii era.

Agreed. Releasing a new console and expecting people to look at it as another "new" 8th gen platform would only further confuse the fanbase they have left, and would be hard to gain a new install base before the 9th gen has released. It'd be better to stick it out with the Wii U and come out with Metroid, F Zero, Pikmin 4, a real Animal Crossing, funded 3rd party, ect. Now that they actually have an engine for Wii U, these smaller titles should take less time to create. Star Fox (when real development for it began) has only taken about a year and a half, and given how many EAD teams should have started new projects by now there could be quite a few games on the horizon (if this is the direction they took).

If they release new hardware, it needs to be what their vision is for Gen 9. As I said before, I'm completely expecting a repeat of E3 2011 where they have a big LoZ 30th anniversary thing, then talk about the NX (which I believe will release a year after showing like Wii U).

Actually, counting from jan 1st and to around nov 15th; 2015 is at around 1.85 million versus roughly 2.1 million in 2014, so that's not true. It was flat for the week ending on the 14th of nov. Assuming the numbers are correct, that is, it may be slightly overtracked. Regardless, it's at least 10% down yoy thus far and there's not much reason to think it will make up any lost ground during the holidays.

Wow what short memory Iwata died six months ago so I think they had their thoughts elsewhere. I know most people in here don't care but when a company loses their leader suddenly things are out on hold. It's like just because you came on here and left your comment about him you think you show you cared. Nope because two months later people are complaining the lack of directs, and what not being released. He dies 6 months ago not 3 years, not 2. not even a year.
I'm sorry a death got in the way of your gaming experience for 4 months, show some morals and respect thanks
