Forums - Gaming - Motion Blur is awesome and saves you Money, stop the Hating

It doesn't feel natural at all. Except if you're driving fast, otherwise it never occurs. It makes sense at 24fps but that fps shouldn't even be allowed. You're right about AA and AF though.

Doesn't bad motion blur cause migraine and/or motion sickness?

Only for some but for those that get it maybe they should focus more on whats being focused on and not the blurry things by the side.

For example if I sit in a car and look at the road ahead while driving fast I don't feel sick.  But if I look to the side and focus on all the blurry things flying past my car I'll feel sick.

Just a thought.  Either way luckily I'm not effected in games.  Although when my vision as a whole is blurred from alcohol if I try and play a game on the TV I'll feel sick after a few seconds.

Motion blur is only nice in racing. Some minor motion blur might be nice at 30fps, but if I'm getting 45-60fps I turn it off, because it causes an unacceptably large hit to performance in most games, and IMO it doesn't even look good. Somehow it makes things appear slower than they should to my eyes.

this site is like 95% console gamers so i fail to see an argument for how "it will save me money".

but i have no opinion on motion blur,.. so long as the presentation is nice i don't much care about the details of the technology.

o: I didn't know motion blur was hated. Who started this...?

Never will like it. Depth of Field too. Especially when I'm using a scope or something. The focusing is annoying. It can't really match natural blur. Because it doesn't have a true random feel. It still acts like the setting is going up and down, smoothly. It's a game.

I'd rather be able to see two targets and pick them off. Than deal with something blurring out, as I run, or sniper. Too much realism becomes annoying and boring towards a game. It be like correcting for wind and gravity, in a FPS.

Motion blur is just one of many tools a developer can use to create certain moods in a game when desired. I have nothing against motion blur, but it must be done correctly, but even that's opened to interpretation to the player/gamer. In real life, there is no motion blur, and what I focus on is "in focus" while everything else around me is "blurred" (because I'm not paying attention to it). But when I turn my attention to something else, that becomes focused, and everything else becomes out of focused (And there is a biological reason why because that's just how our eyes work). Obviously, you cannot do this when there is motion blur is in a game. But if it's done right, it can create some great effects. Take the Katamari games for instance. The series doesn't push the hardware to its limits, but the graphical presentation is very stylized. Motion blur is uses when performing a speed roll or when the Katamari increases in size, giving you a sense of speed and growth, respectively.

Well i don't hate motion blur, it's just some games utilize motion blur at wrong place and time.

This.

pixel art also saves your money, because you dont need a high-resolution monitor.
But not every game fit well using pixel art.

Motion Blur is bad and you should feel bad.

I can't understand how you can call it natural when it's the opposite. Why would I want to blur my vision?
