Forums - Nintendo - Media Blackout! Go into "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" blind with me! (Read OP Before Posting)

***WARNING***

Under absolutely no circumstances can anyone post any spoilers in this thread. None. Not even in spoiler tags. Absolutely no new info revealed of Zelda U past November 12, 2015 is allowed in any capacity on this thread. No trailers. No teasers. No screenshots. No gifs. No memes. Nothing. Not even the reveal of future Amiibo support outside of Wolf Link can be talked about here. Don't even so much as tease, hint, or reference that you know info about Zelda that people in this thread do not that you can't talk about here because you followed later news. This thread is a time capsule. It exists within an information vacuum. The only outside info allowed past that date is the title, the release date, the addition of another platorm like the NX, and the preload date/data pack info. I will be checking every single spoiler tag. If I find a single spoiler in your post, I will report you. If you post anything at all not revealed before November 12, 2015 or directly in the three teasers, I will report you. If you aren't 100% sure it's not a spoiler, don't post it. It's probably a spoiler, and I'll probably report you for it. You have been warned. Don't be a dick.

***WARNING***

I was thinking about this, and I think I'm going to stay away from learning anything new about Zelda U. So far, we've gotten two teasers and four minutes of off screen gameplay. The game looks beautiful and I, like many of you, already know enough from the little that was shown to know that I am going to buy it.

Knowing this, I started to wonder why I felt the need to see more of the game. I already know that I will buy it, so seeing more only serves to spoil things about the game that I would have been suprised by otherwise. Why ruin any more of those suprises?

So here I am. I want to make a commitment to myself. No matter what, I will do my best to not spoil myself anymore. I will not enter any threads that talk about any new trailers, teasers, or significant info about the game after this most recent one. I will try to avoid reading articles that talk about new information about the game. I will not watch any new footage of the game.

There are four exceptions to this rule: I will allow myself to learn the name, the release date, change in platforms (like being ported to the NX), and the date by which they allow players to preload the game. Hopefully one of you generous chaps will be kind enough to alert me as to when these things are revealed without spoiling anything else.

Please know that I consider literally anything else about this game a spoiler. If you think it is not a spoiler to you, it will be to me. If it's a screenshot from another trailer, and it looks identical to one of the first three teasers, I'll still consider it a spoiler. I obviously can not stop you guys from posting pictures and gifs of that stuff in unrelated threads. I'm also 100% sure I'll be spoiled accidentally somewhat just through the titles of threads and articles and thumbnails on videos and articles, but even so, it won't be as bad as if I actually watched the sources of all those.

I've stayed pretty spoiler free with XCX since the time where I decided not to learn any more info on it, and even there I know I could have done better. If I can do that for almost an entire year, the wait to Zelda Wii U won't be terrible or unbearable at all.

This thread is mostly just so I can have this commitment in writing, but I decided to also make this sort of a group thing for the website. If you wish to join me in this media black out, tag me and I'll add you name to the OP. This way we can all have a spoiler-free place to talk about the game and learn only the three exceptions. I'll also personally send a DM chain to people on the list when the official title, release date, and date of preload is revealed so that you can learn this info ASAP without fear of second-hand spoilers. If there is revealed to be data packs like with XCX, I'll include that in the chain as well.

EDIT: June 5, 2015

Yo! So the most dangerous week of the year is coming for those of us who have chosen to keep blind for Zelda U. This week, of course, is E3 week! Now this will absolutely try our willpower, and I have been trying to figure out a good way to help people cope with this week, and I think I've thought of something.

A "let's play" thread, but with a twist! Basically, I'm going to make a thread where all Charterz are welcome to join in. The let's play thread is not of one game, but of many. Basically, the thread well be a Zelda game let's play thread, where the goal is to try and play through one Zelda game you've NEVER played through before. Most people have at least one Zelda game in their bucket list. A community thread would be a great way to knock that off of your bucket list. If you can't get access to a Zelda you haven't played yet, or are like me and have played everything, go back and play something that you've played before and have trouble remembering.

But I want to know some thoughts before I consider making the thread. Is this a good idea? If I can guarantee that at least 4 other people will participate, I'll make the thread.

FYI, you don't have to be on blackout to participate, but that thread will be an extension of this one, so absolutely NO SPOILERS there. I'll be pasting the warning in this thread there too.

Welp, the nature of this thread kinda scares me, so I'm backing off. xD

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Maybe she'll find this thread as a good read and a safe haven to get excited in! I did it half way with both MGSV and XCX. It's definitely not as difficult as I thought it would be.

Way too early for me, probably I will go media blackout after E3.

No thank ou.

I understand. I just think it's exciting going in knowing only 1% or less about the game.

A lot of this is spurred by something that happened to me last weekend. I watched both Inside Out and Big Hero 6 for the first time. Back to back. I had literally never seen anything about either of them before hand. Not a trailer, not a teaser, not a plot summary, not a scenario, not even a picture. I just knew that they were disney/pixar and that people liked them. They were absolutely pheoniminal and became two of my favorite movies of all time instantly, and that whole experience was so overwhelming. It reminded me how great it can feel to go into something totally blind and how much I complain about companies spoiling their content in trailers when I should just be doing myself a favor and avoiding it myself. I can't imagine how much less it would have impacted me if I went in knowing anything.

I also recently bought my friend who doesn't follow gaming and has never played an indie game a copy of Undertale. She fell in love with it, and seeing her unspoiled reactions to it reminded me how great gaming can be. The child like wonder it can bring when you don't know anything about what you're getting into and what you get is monumental.

And then the teaser happened this Thursday. And at first I was frustrated by how brief it was, until I thought about it and realized that for the first time, a developer isn't spoiling their game with teasers and trailers showing too much. No one knows literally anything about this game outside of it being beautiful, large, and open. The universe gave me what I wanted, and I've been complaining about it. Well now I want to take the hint and do something about it. You're right. It's way too early, and that's what excites me. I even wish I could go back to when I didn't know about the long sword, the different shield and shirt, and the Sheikah symbol appearence. That's a little bit of wonder I won't have when I play this game.

Anyone know how to embed Youtube videos?
