I raise you that the PC is the ultimate Dragon Quest machine. It can play every iteration of every Dragon Quest through IX and including spinoffs. Were you so inclined to try to figure out how to manage it in Japanese, you can even play X. Once the 3DS emulator out there gets a bit further along in development, XI will be perfectly accessible.

Sure, the means may be legally questionable at best for playing basically all of them, but that's beside the point.

3DS can run emulators and VC hacks too. In fact there isn't a single released mainline DQ game the 3DS can't run today, albeit translations of VII and VIII.

OP should mention DQX too.

The 3DS can't play "every iteration of every Dragon Quest through IX and including spinoffs". Every iteration includes things like DQ VII PS1 and DQ V and VIII PS2, as well as games like the DQ Wii spinoff. It can play more games than possible legitimately with VC hacks, but due to the difficulty and convoluted nature, PC is still better when considering the illegitimate route due to simplicity and general ease of use.

3DS homebrew is as simple as running any pc emulator today. Using a PC on the go however.. Is just not better at simplicity, that's a fact and also the reason many people own handhelds.

Using inferior iterations of the same game as an argument is disonest at best. And in no way spinoff like Wii one offset the advantage of playing X and XI. Also emulation is never as perfect as using the original hardware.

Think about it, thanks to the backward compatibility, if you own a 3DS, you can play :

Dragon Quest IV : Chapters of the Chosen

Dragon Quest V : Hand of the Heavenly Bride

Dragon Quest VI : Realms of Revelations

Dragon Quest VII : Warriors of Eden

Dragon Quest VIII : Journey of the Cursed King

Dragon Quest IX : Sentinels of the Starry Skies

Dragon Quest XI : In Search of Departed Times

Bonus : Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 1 & 2 are both also available on retro DS.

Truly, the 3DS is a beast when it comes to JRPG.

Yup, i'm finally going to complete my 3ds/ds DQ collection with DQ VII & DQVIII

Games are kinda overrated though, sorry.

...Let the Sony Domination continue with the PS4...

How is V on the PS2 inferior? Because it isn't handheld? Top kek. And I guess Dragon Quest VIII on the PS2, likely to remain the best version for multiple reasons, is just a heaping pile of inferior crap. If you want to get down to it, the 3DS will also have the inferior version of XI, with the grand effort being put into the PS4 version. Yeah, your argument kind of falls to pieces. Good try though. Sort of.

As for the emulation bit, have you ever touched Dolphin? BSNES? Those are just two examples of emulators that are either basically perfectly on par with the system in question (BSNES), or outdo the original in too many ways to count (Dolphin).

iOS has all Dragon Quests except 9, and higher quality with a much cheaper price point.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Yeah, lol.

OP i agree, the 3DS has now become the best console to play DQ games on.

Would love DQX 3ds on the west too.

Still gonna play DQXI on my PS4 but that doesn't change the fact that the entire DQ library can be played on Nintendo handhelds, from gameboy color to the 3DS.

Extra content. Nice strawmen arguments, retard.
