Forums - Gaming Discussion - CBS: Video Games are saving Symphony Orchestras and Filling Concert Halls

It always makes my heart burn seeing things like this, what a nice way to end my day.

To think that I'd see more heartwarming stuff like the Active NEETS (they have some fantastic performances of game music like from the Touhou Project)

Summary: Video game music performances are drawing in new crowds for symphony orchestras, helping them weather a drop in attendance and participation at classical music performances. Some are calling for video game music to be respected as much as the classical music form. Others never thought that video games like Zelda or Pokémon (examples given in-article) will lead them to the world of orchestrated music.

There are a lot of talented composers, musicians and singers working in videogame industry. So to me this nothing but well deserved accomplishments for their own merits.

That's awesome.

Video game music is amazing, so it's great that's it's getting this sort of representation that it deserves.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

I attended the Zelda symphony and place was packed. People can be uptight about it, too many who seem to think still in 1980s style video game music rather than the complex scores many feature.

Its really great to finally see some recognition to video game music, as an art form.
I myself am going next year to a Distant Worlds concert, and I cant be more excited about it!

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

This is just amazing. In time, the world will finally consider video games as a serious art form.

That's really cool! I'd go to a concert of video game music.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

I go to the final fantasy distant worlds every year. love it.

Hey! A positive news article about games! Always nice to see. And yeah, video game music has really reached an extraordinary level. More orchestras should look into performing it.
