Forums - Gaming - Gabe Newell: Valve’s Steam Machines Outperform Consoles

My toaster just outperformed my PS4 and it even makes my toast.
So, no shit Sherlock.

But better price/performance? Go back to your cave you PC fanboy. Not even self built PCs can handle the price/performance of consoles and these steam machines are well above that. There is a very good reason why most of these things do not disclose the exact hardware. And it's because they use shit hardware for the cheapest editions.

"Valve's steammachines"

Does he mean like, Asus' Steam Machines? Or Alienware Steam Machines? Or some other Steam Machine? Cause last I checked, Valve wouldn't make their own Steam Machines.

It will be interesting to see how many people actually buys these devices. I'm more interested on the controller than on the StemMachines, and I would prefer a PS360 controller or PS4/XBone one for my computer over the Steam one, mostly for emulator purposes.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Plot twist - all steam machines actually do outperform consoles.... In the price point.

But seriously the custom to-the-metal OS in PS4 and DX12 in X1 make a side by side hardware comparison to steam machines not as cut and dry. Not to mention the fact that the PS4s graphics card has unique features to itself like twice the rendering pipeline as the PC equivalent among other things.

So this is news that brand new PCs are better than 2.5 year old consoles and cost more too?... okay.

You know it's November as well right?

Hmm, pie.

Not if those specs are true.

PS, PS2, Gameboy Advance, PS3, PSP, PS4, Xbox One

They may outperform consoles but can they outsell consoles? Hell, I wonder if these Steam machines outsold Ouya.

That's some pretty poor memory there. Half decent GPU and CPU but far from great. I think I'll stick to my rig instead, I still don't understand who these Steam machines are aiming at. PC gamers already have their PC's, most gaming rigs will beat these "PC consoles" and console gamers already have PS4, One or Wii U and would be better off buying a PC instead if they want to play PC titles.
Feels like tablets all over again, seemingly useless. Then again; tablets have sold well, so who knows.

Personally, I never saw the use for Steam machines at all and I think they'll fail pretty hard.

Oh, right, all those games that support Steam Linux will totally draw in the crowds.
