I started playing Resident Evil at that age xD

Me too xP

Was really scaring to play it alone during the night... but that was what I kept doing

Some great memories of RE as a kid!

When I was that age there were no scary games yet, but I remember watching Poltergeist with my older sister... ah, scary good times!

Might as well. He`ll be playing COD behind your back soon enough anyway...

We don't have a console that plays COD, so... Should be okay. For now.

Right now he has his eyes on Minecraft, Splatoon and Smash Brothers (which I didn't buy him for similar reasons).

You know your son better than I do, but I'd say get Splatoon. Even if he doesn't get on with the online side of things, the bright colours, the look of the Inklings, the single player mode and all the customisable costumes will be fun for him to play with. But it sounds like he is able to handle the idea of competitive play online from what you're saying about MK8. It's difficult to predict how they're going to react sometimes!

Minecraft sounds ideal from what you say, but I would hold off on Smash Brothers, though. Not just because it's a Pegi 12 anyway, (I waited until my kids were 10) but because there's more likelihood of him raging, especially on the 1 on 1, and the game's suspension system for breaking the rules online might cause difficulties, too.

Me and my 8 year old nephew had so much fun on splatoon, then one day he stole my game xD(He has Wii U), so, that's fine, his parent is far beyond busy at work, they couldn't go to shop.

I bought him Minecraft on my Kindle, but now he wants the PC version, because it's bigger and better. (Thanks, Japanese youtubers) (But he won't get his own PC until he's at least in middle school, so he'll have to deal with the crappy mobile edition. Hah!) (On a side note, I really want Dragon Quest Builders for him (and for me of course), but getting a PS4 is not on my list just yet...)

I hear what you say about Smash Bros. Good idea to wait until kids are at least 10.

I kinda think I know what you're going through, my son has PDD and he was like that for a long time - no rules, hated loosing, even when we played Mario Party, if he lost during mini-game, even though his team was in overall lead, he had emotional outbursts.

Now he's 9 and more capable of dealing with defeat, so I let him play with other kids online - unfortunately, I don't have WiiU yet, so can't say anything about Splatoon.

Today I watched him play MK8 online for the first time. Even though he was hit by projectiles left and right and always being at the bottom of the table, he was calm, he seemed okay with it and looked like he was having a lot of fun.

/thread.

If he's fine with being bombarded by shells in online Mario Kart 8, he's going to be absolutely fine with Splatoon.

Nothing is as frustrating as online MK8. Nothing.

While I totally know where you're coming from (I fucking get so mad at online Mario Kart), nothing has enraged me more than online Splatoon. I didn't even know I was capable of such anger. And then I broke the glass top of my coffee table. I haven't played Splatoon since...

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

Nice to hear your kid got better.

We didn't get any real diagnosis for our son. The doctors said he was in some gray zone. But I also noticed that he has steadily become better in the last 3-4 years. (Maybe it's really just the country. Japan values conformity over everything else. Naturally kids who don't want to conform will be beat down...)

Somehow that makes me think of this:

Maybe just ease him into it with Turf War, since that's generally more chill, and eventually he could graduate to Ranked Battle.

Splatoon is a great game, and if he can handle MK8, he could definitely handle this.
