Forums - Sony - It looks like Fallout 4 will be another Skyrim on ps platforms.

Out of all the videos the guy posted, the only time FPS are truly bad is when using the scope; in the rest of the videos you can see some dips in FPS, but unless you are whinny kid (which a lot of gamers are really), it doesn't seem to be THAT bad; they go for like a second and maybe between the 20-30 FPS.

One big problem though is the loading times in one of the videos.

There's also a 50 minutes video, which can give a better picture, but I won't watch it since I don't want to spoil too much of the game for me.

Going by PC history, Bethesda's engines have been very reliant on high IPC since Morrowind. At the same time, they are very poorly optimized for multicore. A sandy-bridge dual-core i3 is faster at Skyrim/Fallout 3/NV than a hex-core Phenom II.

On the console side of things, the Cell was a bitch to optimize for, while the IBM CPU in the 360 was a better match for their engines.

So my guess is that the low-IPC CPU side of the PS4/X1 is just weak on this engine unless they really get it retweaked/rebuilt enough to balance on more cores. The CPU side of Jaguar is LITERALLY an 8-core netbook level processor. The IPC is horrendous, so for things to work well, the multithreading has to be really on point.

If the CPU and not the GPU is the problem, and I'm pretty confident in that guess, then the X1 should enjoy a slight advantage by having the same processor power, but at 1.75ghz instead of 1.6ghz. So in all probability, we will see very similar, but slightly better performance from X1 in this title. That is, if the slower system memory doesn't end up negating some of that (which should be neglible).

0.15 will do nothing.

15% by definition is not nothing. Hell, a lot of times the highest end GPUs and CPUs on PCs are only seperated by 15% or less, but the top-end product sells for stupidly high prices (and no, I'm not saying that X1 is superior overall, I'm well known for documenting the overall superiority of PS4 architecture for 8th gen since the info first starting coming out).

In the vast majority of games, the GPU is the bottleneck though, and in that respect the PS4 has a dramatic advantage. However, it cannot be denied that in some situations, CPU bottlenecking will occur, and in these events, you will have a 15% CPU advantage (albeit reduced by lower bandwidth memory, which will affect things differently depending on situation/coding).

In the case of FO4, it looks like the graphical side is not really very taxing at all. Most likely development began with 7th gen consoles in mind right after FO3. And the engine is a really old one, albeit with some additional tweaks over the years. It's definitely a CPU hog.

People who have standarts = whinny kid   BRAVO MISTER !!!

20 TO 30 FPS ? pff that is totaly ok !!! Framerate is overated , we need that cinematic experience.

My standards include proper spelling and grammar.

You would think with the PS4 being the market leader, companies would stop doing the optimization on the Xbox One while hoping the PS4 raw power will just compensate for the lack of optimization. Do we even know how the Xbox One version runs in comparison?  Might be to early to make such a claim.

Disappointing to say the least, but like all Bethesda I plan on getting the PC version.

So much for what they said in the past:
"Fallout 4 Won't Have Performance Problems on PS4, Says Bethesda"

Everyone knew this would be the case lol

Everything here has been quite hyperbolic.

2 three and outs and two punts within 2:30 of the start of the game. LOL. I'm not sure I've ever seen that happen before.

Which video are you watching? Thanks for your earlier input!
