Forums - Sony - PSVR will be priced so Sony doesn't make any profit. What are your price predictions now?

Huh..? When did they price their goods at a loss while still being a good affordable price. The PS3 and Vita were still too pricy to buy, even at a loss, and the PS4 they still made money on that day 1... I guess he's talking about the PS1 and 2?

Anyways, to make a base, I'll say 200 USDs or less?

PS4 was sold at a slim loss after factoring in shipping costs etc. Also he never really said that they sold it at a loss while being an affordable price.... Just that they sold it at a loss to chase higher installbase rather than profits from day one.

You may say that the PS3 was "too pricy to buy" (whatever that means, considering it sold as much in that first period as the affordable 360 when you align launches), but it was ridiculously cheap for the tech that was in it. The PS3's BoM was like 850$.

I coulda sworn they were making profit on it day one. Didn't they say so themselves at the start of the launch? It also sounds weird that they sold the PS3 at a loss, but still costed a lot. Sounds like they went overboard on the PS3 tech.

They said they made a profit after one game and a controller sold at launch (or maybe it was just one game?). PS4 hardware was profitable from may 2014-ish.

The PS3 had a blu-ray player (which were very expensive at the time) and the expenisve new tech named the CELL processor.

Well, guess the information I got was wrong, haha.

Have they explained what kind of cable will the Playstation VR will have?

How do you connect it to the Ps4? Via USB or something?

Will it be compatible with other sources aside from the Ps4?

Im 100% interested on this thing, but there are way too many questions up in the air.

I'm going to guess that this will be PS4 only. You might be able to get it to work on PC but probably nothing will support it.

I'm 99% sure that you are wrong here - and I actually consider this to be the best part about PSVR!

Here's why: PSVR connects to the PS4 via two standard and very common cables/connectors: The image is being transferred via a standard HDMI cable, the remaining data (e.g. data from sensors in the PSVR, like gyroscope etc.) is transferred via USB.

Those are two connectors/cables one can find on every modern PC, so PSVR can just as well be connected to a PC. I'm not sure, but I'd suppose that Oculus Rift uses exactly the same approach (HDMI + USB).

So ultimately, using PSVR with a PC is just a matter of a little software - all it takes to use PSVR on PC as an alternative to Oculus Rift is an appropriate driver. I guess SONY itself will not initially provide such a driver - but there will be appropriate Open Source drivers developed by the internet community in no time, just as there are PC drivers for Kinect, the Dualshock, PS Move, Wiimote etc. as well.

I've always said and I still believe that this is the reason why PSVR is easily the most attractive VR helmet already announced:

Unlike Oculus Rift, it will work on PC AND the most popular current gen console!

I don't see it lower than $299.

299$ with a game.

I Think it's over 300 so let's say $349

It really doesnt matter. No one is buying a console without a game so they were technically making profit anyways.

Well, I did. I bought a ps4 with no games. I had a ps+ subscription for years, so when I bought a ps4 I had tons of ps4 games to play.

But, yes your point still stands.

$450 - Includes PSVR, 1- Camera, 1 - Move controller, and Sampler of VR games. 5 tech demos, 1 short game

$400 - PSVR, Camera

$350 - PSVR

If it is below $300 when it comes out, its a day one buy for me. Right now I dont have ps4 coz i got mine stolen :(. so, in a bundle of $500 I definitely go for it, no brainer.
