Forums - Gaming - Classic Game Room is coming to an end

Why is it ending?

I recommend watching the youtube video in the thread, it really goes in depth on it, but I'll summarize

Nowadays, most people who like watching gaming channels on youtube like drama, they like overracting, people getting mad, and reviews that bash the game so much it's funny. CGR was the opposite of all that, he had calm, well written, and generally praising reviews. And when it came down to it, that's just not the kinda thing people want out of a gaming channel in this age, which is a pretty sad reality we live in.

Currently most hyped for: FFXV and Zelda U

I remember when Sonic Boom came out and was universally panned by reviewers. I still bought the game, as I do with every Sonic game, and whilst it was average it wasn't the worst Sonic game I've played. There was fun to be had. Then I came across the review on CGR undertow with the excellent Derek, and it was a very good balanced, witty and fun review that pointed out not only the cons, but some good parts of the game as well. I always like their approach to reviewing, and as somebody else has mentioned, they don't over dramatize things and bash games constantly. They will be missed, I would take them over these silly you tubers any day.

He struck me as simply being burnt out, that being more of a longstanding gripe or excuse. There's room for multiple approaches as he and others have proven, it's not as if this is some TV series that's been cancelled. Youtube has many sober, reasonable game reviewers who are doing just fine and to whom I'm subscribed as well.

It will be sad to see him go though. :(

Oh man. I loved it when he reviewed dead consoles...

Well that sucks.

Haven't watched a video of theirs since that YouTube talking out--which I assume was later resolved. Still really enjoyed their content, especially on games I never played. It's a sad day.

Undertow was a bit of a hit and miss, so i wont miss it, but CGR has always been interesting and that will keep going as a hobby.
At the end of the day i don't see a big loss in this.

i'll miss the voice of Mark

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Well that sucks. They were one of the top reviewers I would go to for an honest opinion on games. Especially lesser known ones. They will be missed.
