Forums - Gaming - Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 pre-orders 'significantly' higher than Advanced Warfare

Pre-orders for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 are "significantly" higher than those for last year's Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Activision has revealed.

Speaking during last night's earnings call, Eric Hirshberg, president and CEO, explained why the publisher is so confident about the game's imminent launch.

"We couldn't be more excited about the launch this Friday," said Hirshberg. "We have strong momentum indicated by a number of factors, but just to name a few: the growing engagement around the past Black Ops titles; the significant year-on-year lift in pre-orders; consumer sentiment around our marketing assets which is more positive for Black Ops III than any Call of Duty title on record; a great partnership with Sony across consumer, trade and custom PS4 bundles; and our ranking as Neilson's Number One Most Anticipated Title of the Year."

He then offered his personal opinion on the title, stating that it is "simply awesome".

Does anyone remember AW fw numbers?

Is this a generation transition issue? People generally not pre-ordering to a high level on last gen consoles last year and now with a much bigger install base of new gen consoles the pre-ordering on new gen is naturally going to be a lot higher than last year.

Is Treyarch now the premier CoD studio? Infinity Ward lost a lot of its talent with the big shake out a few years back, and the new kids are, well, new kids.

CoD last year

So significantly higher is not a return to the glory days of knocking on 12 million opening week. Roughly 6 million last year, so 7-8 million opening week might be on the cards.

Could very well hit 9 million if you factor in PC sales and digital copies.

Yep, sure. I was just thinking consoles in my post though because consoles is the only place where we'll get an estimate of the biggest proportion (physical) of sales. PC the biggest proportion is digital sales and we won't get any estimate of that on the Chartz.

Uh, cool.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Yeah, I guess I'm not the only one who likes Treyarch a LOT more than Sledgehammer/Infinity Ward.

It's on the uptick because it's Treyarch. They've been the better CoD dev ever since World at War and people know it.

I'm buying it for my son, I will give it a 5 minute whirl and if the spawns from the beta are fixed I'll try it out. Otherwise it can fuck off. The franchise has become such a mindless kill fest in MP ever since MW2.
