Forums - Gaming - Personal Opinion: I am glad America is taking over the gaming industry again.

Taking over?  The top selling console is Japanese, the AAA studios have lots of British staff holding top level jobs, many of the AAA games are not american (canada, france, England, and other parts of Europe).  When there are no AAA games not launching, Japanese handheld games are normally top of the global sales numbers.

I have no idea where you get this idea that America are taking over.

Sony want to make money by selling art, Nintendo want to make money by selling fun, Microsoft want to make money.

I am a patriotic yankee doody doo as some of you may know. However, I just have to say from 6th generation to 7th/8th generation I am glad America took over the gaming industry. Before (6th generation) the Japanese developers/publishers ruled everything pretty much, but that is not the case anymore. America is rising and it will continue. More money, more jobs and better life style for all of us. GOD BLESS AMERICA.

Wasn't the west developers (Europe, USA and Canada)not already ruling the market for years/decades?

For AAA games I think of development USA and Europe are in par approx. But for the Japanese / Asian market it's still Japan which rules!
In terms of publishers (so the companies which hire the developers and have own development companies) I think Japan is the biggest and then USA and then Europe. Just a partly list of big publishers worldwide :Konami (JP), Nintendo (JP), Sony (JP), Level-5 (JP), Capcom (JP), Ubisoft (France), Vivendi (France), Activision-Blizzard (USA recently, but was part of Vivendi group), Bethesda (USA) , EA (USA), Bandai Namco (JP), Warner Bros. Interactive (USA), Sega (JP).Atlus (JP), Square Enix (JP) etc etc etc

But what triggered your post? As I think there hasn't been changed much, only that in the previous generations in Europe and the USA a lot of the JRPG's where available and now there are less localized in our regions!

Diversity is one of the most important things that keeps this world alive. Languages, cultures, sensibilities, politics... And, of course, this extends to media. So, no, lack of diversity is never a good thing.

I disagree. Equal opportunity is fair, equal out come isn't, equal outcome can only be achieved by discrimination. That's why i am totally against quota's in buissness, politics, science, media for women and minority races.  because we cease to be a meritocracy. Say for example if in buissness there are 10 male applicants for every woman (with the same qualifications) then why is it a problem if all board rooms have a ratio of 10 to 1? To create parity you would need to discriminate against 9 out of every 10 men. Diversity is fine when it happens because of choice and merit, forcing diversity is wrong.

Who cares if so many American games are popular, it is not their fault they are so good at creating a product that the world wants to buy. I don't give a damn wether a game is made in an " under represented" country in africa, south america or if it is made by the familiar companies in the USA, Canada or Japan. All that matters is wether the game is good. Where it was made will never influence my decision to buy or not to buy.

"America is taking over the gaming industry"? ...how's Xbox doing compared to PS4 again? ...yea I think you need to open up your patriot eyes a bit wider or are you one of those Americans that think "America = World"? >_>

Personally I don't care as you've stated it's your personal opinion.  But like many have said; doesn't matter where it comes from as long as it's good.

Gaming industries worst problems always happen when the western world is leading the charge. Think about everything we be bitch about being gamers. Where did it start?

Oh, yeah, of course. I didn't go into the subject further, but I was talking more about equal opportunity. You can't obviously force anyone to watch, play or listen to any media just because it's under represented, as you say. I always though that possitive discrimination is stupid and we'll never achieve anything with these politics. But people must choose whatever they like, and choose in a wide variety of media, without restrictions of any kind.

All hail America for creating the most iconic characters in gaming: Pac-man, Mario and Sonic

For creating 2 of the most iconic survival horror franchises in gaming: Resident evil - Silent hill

For making Jrpgs a thing to consider globally - Final fantasy 7

For the beat em up that created the term "combo" - Street fighter

for giving us Nintendo - Sega - Playstation

For GTA, Gran Turismo, Tetris and so on!

I agree no one can force you to buy anything you don't want to. Instead of american bashing (not you but other posters) I think we should recognise why many american games are popular. It is because games like Halo, Skyrim, Gears of war, Fallout, Dragon age, Forza, Uncharted, The last of us and God of war are so damn good. And other games like Call of duty seem to be addictive to the people that play it so it is very entertaining to those people.

Are you talking about subscription fees to play online, always online DRM, overpriced dlc, on disc dlc, microtransactions, big ass day one patches, constant system updates and multiple preorder bonuses depending on which store you bought the game from.

I think most of those things  probably did begin in the west but make no mistake the japanese have fully embraced them with open arms. Even nintendo are charging $7 for one character.
