Forums - Gaming Discussion - Activision Buys Candy Crush Makers For $5.9 Billion

In Italy when someone has some money but doesn't know how to spend it young people are use to ironically suggest to buy a huge ammount of popular candies called Goleador which are sold for 10 cents in packages of 2 candies each. Now what would be a better occasion than the acquisition of the company who made Candy Crush to make some crazy calculations?

as of today 5.9 bilion US dollars are 5382033131.43€ that translates into 538203313143cents and 53820331314 Goleador packages affordable which becomes 107640662628 single candies and every single one of them has a nutritional value of 24 kcal for a total of 2.5833759*10^12 kcal, that's enough to eat an average 2100 kcal a day for 1230179001 days or if you prefer 3368046 years :v

Short term this has plenty of upside, but as others have mentioned in five-ten years it is possible revenues from Candy Crush could plummet.

The folks at King made out very well on this deal.

Non of these have made more money than CoD in the past ten years....not even close! Come on BraLoD, we are into a sales tracking site.

Edit - Sorry BraLoD, didn't read ahead and see that you were already in it with someone else.

I think the Mario series would like a word with you... in the past 10 years alone every Mario game from spinoffs (not including the Smash series) to main series has sold 270+ million copies. That's more then the COD series as a hole and with COD each game sale, there is a cut between the console maker and Activision themselves, where about Nintendo will take a majority of the money from a Mario game. Also you gotta take into note that Nintendo's first party games most the time stay near retail prices where COD's price tag is cut in half within 3 to 4 months after launch. I'd give the crown to Mario myself.

On home consoles? pff no, just no. In total yes, we wouldn't even be discussing this due to how prevelant Pokemon is outside of the gaming world as well as Mario, Luigi and Yoshi. But not on home consoles.

Think about it it's almost as much as LucasFilm (4.05 billion which includes Star Wars and Industrial Light and Magic special effects) and Minecraft (2.5 billion) combined!

Anyone else wonder why they are doing this? It seems late for the game and quite a bunch of money. Maybe they didn't want someone else getting it.

And yes, I realize it makes a little over one billion a year - so it might be a really good deal.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

The company makes $500million a year, it'll take a little while but they'll get their money back. I mean, MS and their Minecraft one was weirder.

Actually, I think King makes closer to 1.2-1.4 billion a year. Plus, they have around $700 million in cash.  Only need a few years to make all that back.

Minecraft at least works with Microsofts HoloLens.  And was less than half the amount of money.

Dumbest move ever. Revenue is dropping, as the fad is going away. I don't see them earning their money back from this purchase.

Bad move activision.

@PR spin. Mario > COD obviously, fortunately BraLoD you're honest enough to see that despite not being particularly inclined to defend Mario for any reason other than being honest with the numbers. Kudos.

Within the Mario franchises, there are more spinoffs launched in a year than CoD games sold. I'm obviously kidding, but Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart 8, 3D Land, 3D World, NSMB, Mario Maker, in Nintendo's most difficult period, competes with CoD. And Nintendo is nowhere close to being done. At its best, one Mario Game alone is able to sell 25m (NSMB Wii, Mario Kart Wii, NSMB, ...)

Yeah, all the rest of us are just too stupid to see it.

Looks like a lot of cash for what it is... I believe it's a bad move.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Unless Candy Crush dies off like every fad does.

Yea, but they also get the other game and only need less than 4 years to make it back.  Plus now we will probably see Candy Crush everything - movies, Candy Crush Skylanders, etc.

And they have a few other games at King they get.
