The all-time record holder for November sales in the U.S. is the Wii, which sold over 2 million units in Nov. 2008. Second place is held by the 360, which sold 1.7M in Nov. 2011.

No chance of any broken records then. Those sales are huge!

The X1 may have set a BF sales record: I remember them announcing something to that effect last year.

Why do u call it 4:1? I'd like for that to be true, but I don't see how that checks out.

I actually am not so sure XBO is all that far behind ps4 in sales at the present moment. Certainly not like it was beginning of November. Currently the XBO bundles are fairly high up compared to last month it seems. Highest last month was FO bundle, typically around #45 iirc. Whereas right now there are 2 XBO bundles in the  top 35 with another two at number 53 and 62. Last one at #90. Plus, XBOs sales are fragmented across 10 other bundles, whereas ps4 sales are focused on just 4 or 5.

Gamestop is even closer right now, shockingly:

ps4 #13

xbo #14

ps4 #33

ps4 #44

xbo #47

xbo #53

ps4#87

So, it's essentially a ps4 #33 and #87 vs a XBO #53. Certainly not a massacre. I know this has come alongside major MS deals to counteract Ps4s BO3 deal, but Sony has the majority of the marketing this holiday. I'm surprised it's not a bit more of a blowout. Maybe my expectations were too high haha

Preorders...those PS4 bundles that were crushing X1 bundles last month (SW/BOIII) count towards November sales.

Ah yes. I'm aware of those preorders, but I've been overlooking them lately. Yeah those will be massive.

Tho I'm still surprised at the current sales trends. I think the gap will widen significantly, however, in a few days--after FO4 and all of MSs crazy defensive deals.

I would be surprised if MS did nothing to counteract it, but it is genuinely odd to see PS having such a comparatively strong November.

Well, has anyone else the sudden GameStop and Best Buy PS4 offers. Free Fallout 4 with NDC bundle for $349. This deal will go head to head with the Fallout 4 Xbox Bundle for $399. The PS4 is dominating the Xbox One simply by keeping demand constantly high.

Monthly rankings updated.

Another big drop for the Halo 5 bundle, but the Gears bundle shot way up thanks to that gift card deal. No major changes for the PS4, though. While BF is still 2-½ weeks away and things could change big time after then, so far we still have four PS4 bundles ahead of the top-ranking XBO bundle, which means the PS4 must have a commanding lead right now.

Given that the X1 bundles are failing to really climb over the PS4 whatsoever with the current deals, do you think MS is going to do anything else, or just let it ride out? Personally I think perhaps their hands are tied a bit. $299 will be a stalemate at BF, as both sides will do it. I don't think additional free games/stuff will make a difference either, as some of the packages already have been crazy but not enough to upend the sales race whatsoever.

I think it would take $249 + Game(s) + XBLG for X1 to have a prayer of winning December. November is a lost cause, and October at best will be a tie, but looks like a PS4 win to me. 2014 X1 peak year?

Nintendo DS probably has the record for most sold gaming device in any month I'd assume.

The Wii actually had the best single month in the U.S., selling over 3.8M in Dec. 2008. The DS gets the #2 & #3 best months, selling 3.3M in Dec. 2009 and 3.04M in Dec. 2008. The DS did have the record for best non-holiday month ever, though, selling over a million units in April 2009 (the month the DSi was released).

Nintendo sold 3.8M Wii's and 3.04M DS' in Dec 2008...! That's 6.84 million consoles...in...a month...in...one country...in...conceivable!

Probably not. At its peak the Wii was a beast, at least in the West and especially the U.S. It was putting down sales figures that outclassed even the PS2. The biggest thing that caused the Wii to eventually fall way behind the PS2 in lifetime sales was that it had far weaker legs.

According to this, the all-time BF WEEK sales record was 766,179 Wiis in 2008, and the MS sold 721,569 X1s last year:

MS was only 55,000 units short of the record, so I guess it is possible, but I feel that PS4 will record a lot of sales earlier in the month (via preorders).

I think that if MS was in the position to offer a price cut, they would have issued one by now. Right now I think they may be more concerned with profitability than by winning the holidays. They've failed to outpace the PS4 even at a $50 lower price throughout 2015. The PS4 has sold 19% more units this year than the XBO as of September. That the XBO won last holiday season at a lower price point than the XBO may have been due to a combination of the price cut being initially announced as temporary (thus producing a rush of people scrambling to get it before the cut expires) and less picky holiday shoppers going with the cheaper option (think parents buying a console for their kid, kinda like how my parents got me a Genesis for Christmas '91 because it was $50 cheaper than the SNES at the time, even though I would have preferred the SNES).

While the reduction to $350 has narrowed the gap quite a bit, it still has only resulted in a single monthly victory this year, and that's apparently because several retailers were running big deals for the XBO. MS may not be able to get away with the "temporary holiday price cut" thing again, so even if they did reduce the price, it'd have to be a permanent price cut. But even then, after seeing how the XBO has performed this year against the more expensive PS4, such a cut might not be able to guarantee them victory again this holiday like it did last year. It would guarantee them tens of millions in lost revenue, though. I think MS is simply going to ride this out, deal with the XBO being back at parity with the PS4, and settle for a more profitable second place rather than cut into their profits for a potential U.S. victory.

Yes, that's where we are at for certain. I still think we may see a deal here are there but in my opinion that will only be to clear any left over stock. MS have to ballance this carefully unless they want to risk retailers not wanting to stock as many XB1s for fear of having unsold stock clogging up valuable space in their warehouses. Less ordered stock will lead to less consoles required and that reverberates right back to AMD and future orders, which are likely going to cost MS more because of having to order less (I would assume there's a deal in place for reductions in price for bulk orders?).  This is the slippery slope that MS find themselves in and I can't see MS being able to overship in the future to inflate numbers for their shareholders; something I predicted earlier this year given a situation we see now. It's clear they've decided against that with the recent announcement of only reporting LIVE attachment rates and not consoles. I don't think MS are hiding console sales with this latest move but rather consoles shipped because they're no longer in a position to fool anyone. The console race is finished and profit is what shareholders want and love the most.
