Forums - Nintendo - fatal frame 5 (project zero) opinion

So just played my first bit off a Fatal Frame game ever (only the European free trial) and have to say the game is .....  Good. Not amazing. Not Average. Not Bad.

First off some bad points, well ya, the controls aren't great. Controlling the actual characters is ok(occasional annoying walking into walls and stuff) but nothing too bad, however the button mapping is a little odd, like pressing Y brings up the menu whereas start button brings up a map, with seemingly no configuration options available. A and B seem redundant and could do with a climb button. Graphics ( especially character models)are pretty good they actually kinda suprised me. Some enviroments look a little rough though but overall graphics are pretty good and very atmospheric.

Sound is also pretty good with some eerie music and scary sounding ghosts, English voice acting is OK, no dramas there although oddly there is some Voice text only bits too. Gamepad implementation is excellent as the camera works extremely well.  I also found the first 5 minutes of the game to be quite bad, like walk 2 metres quick cut scene, walk for 2 seconds another quick cutscene,  overall the prologue was quite jarring. Thankfully the following  chapters are  much better.

Good game with some odd design choices ( button mapping, random text parts instead of voice acting), Stella atmosphere with great gamepad use. Best of all its free (well part of it) so download it and let me know if you agree or disagree.

How big is the demo?

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

It's a shame the controls are bad as it otherwise sounds pretty cool. That seemed to be the biggest gripe in the reviews I read, and may have dropped it a full letter grade or more on Metacritic.

Do you mean file size or length of playtime?

Either way 6gb and so far I've played solid for a hour and a half ( no deaths or restarts, including about maybe 10 min off cutscenes)

I haven't finished it yet stopped playing misses wanted the TV

I only beat 4 chapters so I don't have a definitive opinion yet but based in my experience, I agree with you. Not bad, not excellent, but it's a good and enjoyable game. It's quite tense sometimes.

I wouldn't call them bad at all. Like there no where near as annoying as say Assassins creed. But yeah they could be better

I don't think they're that bad. Walking and running feels clumsy, but using the GamePad as the camera is great. Very inmersive. It takes time to get used to the controls though.

Yeah, when the Wii U was first announced I thought two franchises were absolutely perfect for the gamepad: Fatal Frame and Pokemon Snap. Glad we got one of those lol

As for those reviews, they primarily complained about the controls and it being repetitive. From what I've seen, though, I'd definitely enjoy it and plan to get it.

Yeah, I'm still waiting for Snap to come out the darkness lol. Although this is wishful thinking... Yeah, I read some reviews and they have some valid points. It's not a game for everyone's taste, that's for sure. I like the controls a lot. I don't know yet if it's repetitive, although I did 2 missions in the same place, so I guess that's a fair criticism. I like how the game fear factor doesn't come with jump-scares, but more with the creepiness, the setting and some sick situations. That's somewhat refreshing. Because horror games nowadays relies a lot in jump-scares, and I'm tired of them.

Jump scares do nothing for me in games or movies. I completely agree that its atmosphere which can actually make you feel the tension... The only one this gen I've experienced that in is Aliem: Isolation, and you spend much of that game not actually engaging the enemy.
