I don't think they're that bad. Walking and running feels clumsy, but using the GamePad as the camera is great. Very inmersive. It takes time to get used to the controls though. 

Yeah, when the Wii U was first announced I thought two franchises were absolutely perfect for the gamepad: Fatal Frame and Pokemon Snap. Glad we got one of those lol

As for those reviews, they primarily complained about the controls and it being repetitive. From what I've seen, though, I'd definitely enjoy it and plan to get it.
