Forums - Sony - Sony: “there is still first-party Vita content being worked upon”

Sony’s European boss Jim Ryan has told VG247 that there are still first-party PlayStation Vita projects in the works.

He was speaking following comments made by Sony Computer Entertainment SVP Masayasu Ito last week, who told press that “currently, first-party studios have no titles in development for PS Vita.

“Since third-parties are working very hard on PS Vita, SCE’s own strategy is to focus on PS4, which is a new platform.”

But Ryan has said there has been some confusion, and although Sony is not working on big budget Vita games, there are still internal projects ticking over for the handheld.

“To clarify what was said about Vita, which was either misinterpreted or misreported: I think what was said was that we’re no longer in the business of triple-A development of games for Vita. But there is still first-party Vita content being worked upon.”

Ryan was speaking during Paris Games Week, where no Vita games were mentionedduring a 90 minute presentation of Sony’s forthcoming titles.

Makes me wonder what they mean by "first party". There's clearly nothing being worked on by their internal studios - supposedly Bend and Cambridge repeatedly had projects shot down by SCE.

If they're counting second-party stuff though, then they're not wrong. Gio Corsi's still porting stuff and Virtual Toys are still making crappy licenced stuff :P

I'm hoping they've got a few more ports before the console gives in, too.

maybe something from Japan Studio

When they say content, I think they aren't talking about videogames (it they were, they would have said games). Maybe some new apps for the console.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Come join The 2018 Obscure Game Monthly Review Thread.

Just port valkyria Chronicles.  That's it. That's all I want.

Third-parties are working very hard on PS Vita. Are you serious

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

i would want a job like that.. The guy who oversees the first party Vita content... Go to work, sit at a desk, checking your empty email, no ones answers your send email, get lunch.. Go home

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

I think he means smaller games like Resogun or CounterSpy.

Prove it.... Especially when someone else in your company has said otherwise.

Well SCEE Spain has I think at least 3 games commissioned with 1 of announced. I think wires are getting crossed with who actually developing them.

I think theactual situation is that Sony are no longer developing any Vita games with their own internal studios, not that they are no longer publishing any games themselves on the system. That does also mean no more big projects though.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.
