I would argue that the Wii allowed more people to be able to play video games through simple motions allowing it to become so popular. That was the real brilliance of the Wii. Video games have always been out of reach to most of the population due to the complex controls and high difficulty/learning curve. The NES controller was too complicated for my parents and then the controllers just started acquiring more and more buttons. The Wii allowed even my grandma to play bowling which was probably her first home console video game played. That is why the Wii sold so much. It allowed easy gaming which has now been replaced by touch games on phones. It doesn't take that much skill usually with most games that are on smartphones. That is why all the casuals play touch games on their phones now.
