Would a remake/remaster of one of the highest selling Zelda games really need months and months of build up and advertisement?

No, it doesn't. It's home console Zelda, an easy high profile release and easy money for Nintendo.

Who said that TP HD has to be released by the end of the year only because Kimishima said they were going to have some more unannounced titles in 2015 ? in the end a TP HD remaster would be perfect in addition to HWL3DS and possibly Zelda U for the celebration

It's just a theory. If those unnanounced titles they are going to release for this year were only small titles or digital-only downloads, they probably wouldn't have said it. They have, at least, one unnanounced big thing coming this year.

and couldn't it possibly be something different than TP HD ? maybe even something less important since we're so near to the end of the year...

Well, there is Project Treasure, which is a FTP, or Project Guard and Robot, that we don't know anything about for a long time now, maybe is that rumour about Twilight Princess for the New 3DS that was circulating on the web for a while...

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Come join The 2018 Obscure Game Monthly Review Thread.

I still don't think TPHD exists.....

A game that big doesn't really need build up, and it's not like it has any competition.

project treasure is confirmed for spring 2016 I believe and the game looks underwelming, the TP on the N3DS rumor was confirmed fake

Nope. I think is the main game remaster in HD coming in the next months, before 2015 ends. It is one of the "unnannounced" games coming this year.

Yes, if they announced Twilight Princess HD far in advance and pegged it as their flagship holiday title people would have dragged them through the dirt. "Another remaster", "Zelda Wii U is never coming". If they surprise release they will save some face and it will save months of bad press. It'll feel more like a christmas gift as oppose to lazy compensation for not having real Zelda ready by now.

Given its just a HD remaster of "another" Zelda game they have nothing really to gain from marketing it far in advance. Its not going to attract new users and it doesn't really need to be explained.

I'm gonna stick with "it's coming out in November, surprise." It's definitely TPHD, no question. I just hope they're not going digital only with it, given how it's got less than a month before it comes out in all likelihood. That's digital-only level of marketing time.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

... a Twilight Princess HD SPINOFF?

Unless Nintendo wants to release TP in Q1-2, 2016, there's the possibility of this supossed HD Zelda game being another spinoff, just like Crossbow Training. I think that, if this was trully an HD release of a legitimate Zelda game, they would have announce it sooner. Also, it's small, but maybe the new TP link dessign might also support this theory.

What do you think? Will we be surprised and get a spinoff, or we will just get a HD remaster of TP?

What if Nintendo intended it for release in mid-2016, but bumped it up to holiday 2015 to compensate for losing Star Fox from the holiday season?

As for why not specifically announce it earlier than this? Simple - Zelda is a franchise that gets a dedicated announcement (not a press release or a random trailer upload), so it would have to be in a Direct. But Nintendo haven't been ready to start back up with the directs, yet. If they'd known that they would need it for 2015 at the time, they would have revealed it at E3.

Or maybe not even then. No point in taking attention away from Triforce Heroes, so they can wait until November, and reveal it in a "And it will be available in XX days" kind of way. If it looks even remotely like the Zelda tech demo (and I could see them working to get it looking something like that, since TP is a more "realistic" style Zelda than Wind Waker or Skyward Sword), it won't need much extra push to sell well.

While a spinoff isn't entirely implausible, I can't see them doing it right now. There's no benefit to doing so. They were experimenting with art styles in the leadup to deciding on what Zelda U would look like, and that's where Wind Waker HD came from. I expect that Twilight Princess HD came about in exactly the same way, and that it's been in development since Wind Waker HD released, in parallel with Zelda U.

Heck, I bet there's a heap of references to Zelda U in Twilight Princess HD, in the same way as how Skyward Sword artwork was added into Ocarina of Time 3D.
