Forums - Gaming - Which current gen console should I get?

Ok, I know there are certain problems with these kind of threads, but the situation is that my kids want a new console for christmas. Predominately they'd want a PS4. My kids are aged between 1 and 11. My newest (home)console is Wii.

So, in your opinion, what gives the console you prefer the edge over others? What are the main selling points?

And what games to get for the said console?

Sony just said that GT Sport is for ages 7-77, so there is that.

Other than that, depends entirely on what kind of games you want to play.

Wii U wins with platformers and kids will probably love Mario Kart. It also has free online if you're not into online games but still want the option to play now and then.

PS4 wins with fighters and they seem to have some great downloadable games coming. They win with niche Japanese games and RPGs, as well. They have the most variety when it comes to exclusives. Online is behind a paywall but PS+ is a pretty darn good value.

Microsoft has the big exclusive shooter franchises with Halo and Gears. Their online service is probably a good value, as well, but I don't know enough about it to make that claim.

If they want a PS4, get them the PS4. They probably also have an idea about which games they want. Best way is to ask them. Or if it's supposed to be a surprise, don't you know which games they enjoyed on the Wii?

The games I know they want are mostly multiplatform (at least on the AMD consoles). Then again, games like Mario Kart, Mario Party and Smash Bros are on the top of their list and seem to be interested in Amiibos. PS4 has the advantage of being white, and the lack of white Wii U is the reason I haven't bought one.

My question is what do YOU want ?

If you were basing on what your kids wanted this thread needn't be created ...

PS4. They usually have a more diverse library, imo.

You can buy a white wii u. I was looking at a ps4 or X1 for my kid, but there isn't really any good age appropriate games so just got a Wii u and a kindle fire  HD instead for him.

Me? I wan't a white Wii U Premium with old school Zelda and Super Mario Brothers. See the problem?

PS4 isn't the only thing my kids want. They want Ipad's, Xbox One, Wii U, HDTV, BD-player, New 3DS's, Galaxy Tabs, Samsung Galaxy phones, loads of games (they likely do not even play) and lots of other stuff.

No, I can't, unless I import from Japan. There excists two models; the black Wii U and the insulting white Fuck U. White is more expensive once you buy the whole package and you still end up getting short end of the stick due to it's laughable internal memory.

I would go with Wii U but you know it will die soon and NX will release...
You can buy a PS4 this holidays or if the kids can wait you could buy NX. Their choice. ^^
