There's almost no chance to extend the WII U's life at it's current rate ...
If there was going to be a price drop they would've done so by now but Nintendo knows their not confident enough to ride the WII U out for more than a year now ...

Since when price drops extend a console's life...?
They would like to get rid of the stock before the arrival of the successor,price drop is the solution....Let me note that Nintendo is in trouble with old 3ds/3dsxl,because people now care for the better new 3ds/3dxsl,the price between the old models and new models is very near,so the old stock stagnates and narrows down New models shipments,they can't ship as much as they would like to or the retail aren't able to ask for as much as they would like to,in order to avoid the channels overstuffing,so the new models face supply problems...If the old models get a price cut,then this doesn't imply a life lengthening to 3DS family...
It's traditional for Nintendo home consoles to have 5 years lifetime before being replaced,the price cuts of last year,didn't prolong their lifetimes...
Well gamecube had its price slashed two times in its first two years,which had a great effect,no matter what it finally sold,which could be worse without the price drops,it was only behind by 2m by the second antagonist,and extemely above the fourth,which was ruined ...
I don't think they will. If anything it will be the route of a mini 25$ pricecut and putting more value in the Bundle, like the MK+Splatoon+all MK DLC for 275$ or something.....:/
They should though. At least a 50$ pricecut, especially now that the ps4 pricecut has happened.

Price drops DO extend a console's life, providing of course there's software that people want ...
Go take at the 3DS and tell me straight in the face that they would've sold at their current rate had they kept their launch price ...
If retailers wanted to get rid of stock then all they would have to do is quit ordering shipments of WII Us and do price drops on their own accord without Nintendo ...
I'm not sure how the new 3DS models are supposed to be related in this discussion ...

True, the GC was at one point 99$, I think. Without that price, there's the possibility the GC would have sold less than the WiiU. Nintendo would love to put the U to 99$, but the gamepad is probably too costly for that.
If it happens, it will be announced in the investidor meeting that is going to happen in Thursday if im not mistaken.But i think they wont do it, even if it would be a wise to drop the price.
