Forums - Microsoft - Prediction: Next-Gen XBox Will Be A PC-In-A-Box (Literally)

Where is the difference to what they're doing now? X1 is nothing other than a PC with a custom UI. You can already do everything with an X1 that anyone who wants a box under the TV would want to do with it.
If people wanted a full fledged PC that they can use from their couch they would just use their PC from the couch.

True enough, but it would be a talking point. If it ran on windows and you could just click on an app to play games it may draw enough attention due to it's name (Xbox) to get people who want a gaming pc but don't want to have to hassle of trying to figure out the components to build one to jump on board.

With the right marketing (another thing steambox and things like it don't have) it may build interest.

Again, there is no difference. I'm pretty sure that if MS wanted, you could install steam on an X1 and play all of the games. But they don't so you can't. It already is a full fledged PC that's gated by its customized OS.

If MS markets their new box as a PC they would still give it a custom UI and will still use DRM so you can only play approved games on it. That's the whole deal of a console. A simplified PC. So their next box would make literally no difference to the mainstream consumer.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

If they wanted that it would've happened by now.

I assume you mean by the end of 2018, which I still think might be a little early.

But yeah, that would make sense. Just make the next Xbox a tower pretty much, turn Xbox into a Steam style storefront and go from there.

Needless to say, the next console generation is going to be very interesting.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

So basically MS may produce a line of Steambox-types? It's possible. But, that means producing even more hardware. Would it be more profitable to bring Xbox to PC? Or bring Xbox Live to another batch of Windows 10 devices?

I think he means just one steambox type system, rather than a line of them.

x1 will pass ps4 in USA, and UK.

Jesus, I never thought of that...how do they balance the games for controllers and keyboards?

Yep, I think the latest statement that Halo 5 might seriously come to PC is a major indicator that this is MS's next move. I think the Xbox brand will be their gaming PC brand, more or less. The brand isn't going to beat PlayStation *and* make money in the console market so no use sticking around there. I don't even think it will be steambox in style. It will literally be a gaming PC line.

Yes, sounds reasonable, will likely use continuum too double as a competent PC.

It will be Steam but called Xbox Live and you can access it from any device

I don't want Microsoft games in my Nintendo consoles. If they want to go third party they'd better go do it somewhere else.
