Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft Will Focus Primarily On Xbox Live Usership, Not Console Shipments

^^ Well bro... Lets say you have parents that are very caring towards you. It feels like love. But how will you really know unless they actually tell you they love you? Just hearing those three words instead of it being shown, means the world 😢

In this case, I NEED M$ to tell me they are losing. It would bring me so much happiness... 😃

well technically Nintendo is.... But what is losing??? Is apple loosing with barely 20% of the phone market and even less of the PC market??? It really is about profit margin per customer at the end of the day... And MS has proven time and again in the past they can excel at that..

I still don't understand people saying the One is doing bad... Doing bad compared to what? The PS4? The Wii? (not the WiiU)... Maybe if you compare those charts yes. But if you compare to the Xbox 360, the One is still ahead by ~2.75m units... So I don't view the One as being a bad seller at all. It is a sales improvement so far compared to their last console, and to me that is more important than out selling everyone. It is just the people out there looking to bash Microsoft that will use other devices number to bring down the One. So with people doing that, they have to find another way to make people THINK they are not doing bad (because they are not at all.)

But I guess that's just my opinion?

nah it's not an opinion it's a fact... And you know what MS is more than likely more efficient at generating revenue per unit sold than their competition and has clearly a more future proof approach to the market than the other... So yeah so far the XBO is doing more than alright and the XB division is not going anywhere and will keep becoming more and more relevant in the entertainment business no doubt...

This is a pretty huge assumption or lie... c'mon.

I would not say futureproof. Microsoft is a smart company who will be around for ages, even if they do bad for 5-10 years they have enough cash flow on their products that will keep them afloat durning that time (Same goes for companys like Apple/Google.) Xbox is a profitable department, though its not as large as Office is. Still something. Their goal right now I think is more sustainability in the current and future market. Just being large enough not to die, and not large enough to not keep the competition on their toes, due to the fact we never know what they will say or do next, they can afford a loss just to gain it on Xbox Live/Online sales.

X1 is around 16 million right now.

No it's not.

Vgc estimated it at 14M at the end of august (and we know Vgchartz overestimate it), and Xone sold in the US  (60/70% of Xone sales) , for september, 280k units.

Add 150k-200k for the rest of world (and i'm optimistic here), that leave 1500k for october alone ? No way.

According to a GAF insider he said its close to close with ps3 at the same time period.

It seems they are combining like how Nintendo is/has with their portable and home consoles. Trying to unify to cut costs to create more profit all around. I could see them trying to make their own version of a 'steam' machine with a lot of compatability between the PC and console though.

Changing the reporting mechanism does nothing to cut costs. Xbox has been unified since 360 with Live.  It's just positive PR that masks platform sales.

I'm aware of that. They haven't been unified with PC and Xbox OS's.

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.

Maybe MS is planning to start licensing XBox production to third parties, to make it a sort of SteamBox, unify it with Windows PC deeper than we thought and drain users from console market to PC one, where it still dominates.

blind about what??? XBL has to generate more cash than the other just on add alone... And XB are known to be more likely to go DD and spend more cash on XB stuff in general and more likely to go gold too.... I could look up numbers but I won't let 'm having beers and cookout party with my friends right and I know the chances are so slim of me being wrong looking at historic trends that I won't even bother... But go ahead prove me wrong...

They honestly should just cut a deal with Nintendo.

Nintendo agrees to use Windows OS on their console/portable NX, give Windows Phone some app loving, and MS agrees to back Nintendo in the console race with things like Halo and a Nintendo themed version of Minecraft.

I don't think MS' heart is really into it, and they're not making the progress they would like. The whole reason they got into the game industry was because they were worried Sony could leverage the Playstation brand against the Windows OS-monopoly, but that was obviously a laughably off-base concern (they should have been paying attention to Apple and Google instead).

Didn't they try making a deal with Nintendo in the late 90s and they declined? I still don't think Nintendo would want to team up.
