In this case, isn't this just a demo..? Why give it a different name?

It's not a demo.

It seems that way to me. You're trying out something to get a feel of the game, and to see if you will like it or not. Isn't that what a demo is?

Why don't more games let you do this?  Start playing and buy it if you like it?  Great idea!

You mean like a demo?

This has been around for a long time now.

Actually no its not a 'demo'. A demo is something that may not be representive of the final product, changes for the better or worse may be applied to final product

This is literally the first few chapters in there finished form, to try, before you buy

Kinda like a demo but not

Uncharted demo on the psn store literally lets you play the first few levels of the finished game. Same with the journey demo. Same with flower.

Those are the few games off the top of my head, they are all labelled as demos, and they have all been doing this since last gen.

Nintendo didn't create something new here, this has all been done before by the rest of the industry for a while now, regardless of whether they call it "demo" or "free to start"

Demos often feature a non-final version of the game and therefore may play differently to the completed product. In this case you get to try the final version of the game so I can understand why some would like to call it something else.

That's a fair point and makes sense, since that is what you're literally doing here.

wouldn't that be a beta trial if you're playing something that won't be in the final game?

There are many demos out there that have you play the first few levels of a complete finished game. Bravely default also lets you carry over any progress from the demo to the main game should you choose to buy it. Nintendo didn't create something by giving something a new name

True, but Idk,   if you download say uncharted demo, then purchase full game do you continue where you left off from the demo version?

It's not a demo.

Atlus does this kind of demo all the time. It's still a demo for the full game. Save data carries over as well.

idk, I didnt download my copy of uncharted, I bought it physically.

I know bravely default does let you transfer over demo playthrough though, so this has definitely been done
