Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo NX very likely will have AMD x86 chip, possible 14/16nm

His argument was bad, and yet you managed to outsuck him by bringing up a shitty ad hominem.

Good job.

It wasn't meant to be an argument ...

Everyone else in the tech community knows that WCCTECH's rumors suck and or recycled from other tech sites ...

Both Zen and Excavator (the CPU inside the SoC) are x86 (more exactly they are x86-64, as they are 64bit chips like all the chips made in the last +5 years), and both Artic Islands and GCN are also common and as easy to program as you can get.

Another thing that doesn't have to do with the hardware, is if developers will be able to port PS4/X1 games to NX easily, and the answer is that it will be as easy or as hard as the publishers want (they always find new and surprising reasons to not develop for Nintendo consoles).

Well, but at least there are less technical issues, like cartridge, minidiscs, no HD (modern), or PowerPC/underpowered console.

Remember when they said that they weren't developing for Wii because they had to find a way to use the Wiimote? Or how they said that they weren't developing for Wii U because they wanted to find ways to use the Gamepad capacities and screen? I don't need much imagination to guess what they will say once the NX is/are revealed when they are asked if they will develop for it/them.

This is a personal opinion, but I believe that third parties will only develop for NX if it is more powerful than PS4/X1. Powerful enough to run unoptimized code from either the PS4 or X1 versions of their game.

I have to ask, would third parties support nintendo if the NX was ultra powerful?

Would Nintendo games really need that much power ?

The whole notion that NX has to be much stronger or even a little stronger than PS4/X1 is just so stupid. Consumers cannot tell or even care about the power between the X1 and PS4. Let me ask this. If its stronger or even as strong what are the games going to look like? Like PC? Thats not a really big jump, theres nothing they can really do in the power area other than at least match PS4/X1. Thats all they have to do.

AMD's 28nm SoC designs don't scale down to the power draw limits of smart phones, so my bet is Nintendo goes with an SoC design that can scale down ie the ZEN or K12 SoC's from AMD.
Nintendo did merge their two hardware divisions for a reason after all

I don't think Nintendo will give up much on NX until after the New Year. There's no benefit to them.

Yup, we are waiting Q1 2016.

This still is just conjecture, and even if it's true means little. Power alone is not going to magically make the next system do SUPER well. Wii was weak hardware, better than Xbox but less than 360, yet it ruled that gen. PS1 and PS2 were the weakest hardware of their gens yet they dominated by far. Power means far less than having the right games, and good advertising.

Offcourse that hardware itself will not sale, but if this is true that means that 3rd party easy and pretty fast to port PS4/X1 games to NX. So that definitely means much better 3rd party support than Wii U have (or dont have at all).

I just don't buy Nintendo, of all companies, banking on hardware that's not even on the market yet. That seems so unlike them in every way possible. Maybe that's the point, though, in that they want to go a different direction, but I have to see that happen first. What if there ends up being quality concerns? Will Nintendo management all commit seppuku? What if the cost climbs above estimates? Investors would raid, pillage, and rape Nintendo HQ into submission.

Iwata is gone and so, it's possible the company is moving into a different direction. Yamauchi released all of his consoles in a way that either matched or exceeded the power of their rivals consoles. It wasn't until Iwata's Wii and DS that the company started releasing super weak hardware.

My opinion that Nintendo needs a more powerful console to get third parties on board isn't based on prettier graphics or anything like that but in the effort it takes to port a game to a game console.

Third party games fon't sell as well on Nintendo consoles as they do on Sony and MSoft consoles (it can be discussed about why it happens, but it happens), so most publishers don't port their games to Nintendo consoles because the investment it takes to optimize the game engine to run well on them isn't worth it. With a more powerful console, that optimization task is less demanding (they could basically throw the code of the PS4 or X1 version of the game and only tweak a couple of things to make it run without too many problems), so the costs of those ports would be lower and therefore, publishers would be more open to make them.

That's my opinion.

Actually Nintendo will follow Iwata vision and plans, but those pretty different plans in comparison with last 2 gens, those plans include Amiibo, mobile games, theme parks, unifying platforms...that doesn't mean they will releasing very strong hardware but I think they will not release any more super weak hardware, it will be more on pair with competitors.

even if Nintendo gets initial third party support, I can totally see PS4/X1 ports bombing and developers dropping the console again lol

If they run notably better on the NX then the PS4 I can see quite a few titles gaining traction.

The games I think will struggle will be the FIfa's and CODS, game that don't rely on a harcore gaming audience for success and  they are heavily reliant on your friends having the same consoles as you. The Final Fantasy's and Mass Effects will do well, obviously not PS4 levels of well.

Yai, next Gen we will have three different consoles, which are all basically the same!

I liked the old days Ehen every console had its own personality. :/
