Forums - Gaming - Why didn't Sony make Vita smartphone?

I am finally in market for a new phone, my Nokia 2600 is too scratched and bad battery, it's around a decade old. Some people when see it look awry cos they are materialist idiots who think their fancy smartphone gives them status in society. I have even had a girl on a date cringe seeing my phone, I hope she met an equivalent moron in the end but they couldn't multiply.

I would gladly pay 200 euro knowing I get a PSP2 plus a phone, whereas now I can't justify spending that on a smartphone that I will never fully use, I only need phone for calls and sms. PSP2 smartphone would attract all PSP install base plus Sony phone fans, it's like common sense.

I don't know what phone to get now and blame Sony.

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

I mean it's so obvious right?

All the PSP install base and fans of Sony phones would've bought it, 100% guaranteed!

I can't believe Kaz and Shu still have a job when we have this genious here!

You're wasting your brilliance here though, people will say you're crazy.

Because this will be a niche product and consoles need a lightweight OS without the phone features weighing it down. Also Sony have no OS software expertise level as Google, Apple and Microsoft. There is more chance of a Xbox Lumia Phone then a PS console Phone hybrid.

Because nobody would buy a PlayStation phone. Okay? Nobody.

Because their smartphone failed too

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

This can be accomplished with a 3G Vita and Skype

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

They weren't selling many Vitas or phones, so it didn't make sense to make a device that combined both.

I'm typing this from an Xperia Z. It's a wonderful phone that nobody uses. Objectively the Xperia Z line is the best out there; it wins in almost every category hands down. That hasn't helped it perform well in the market. Most users don't care about power or battery life nearly as much as they claim, and something more powerful that is meant to run games would be a disaster waiting to happen.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

The PSP also sold around 80 million units worldwide. You don't look at sales like those and think "well damn, time to change direction".
