Forums - Gaming - DICE Dev: Xbox One Isn’t As Powerful As PS4, DX12 Won’t Help Reduce Difference, Talks Development

The games don't look amazing or anything and have frame rate issues on top of "bad" resolutions. So there is clearly room for lots of improvement to their engine.

I wasn't implying they should work on the Xbone version more. It makes sense to work within the budget to make each version as best they can.

I have a short penis, cuz I'm Asian. Common sense... 😫

Xbone... the new "N" word   Apparently I troll MS now | Evidence | Evidence

The problem is not many people or kids understand what DX12 is. XB1 has a weaker GPU but a stronger CPU. DX12 isn't going to change the hardware in the consoles (Mentioned by Phil Spencer awhile ago) DX12 is optimisation. It allows the system to push harder without working harder. Its all about getting the most out of the hardware.

Consoles are already design to be peddle to the metal systems. However that doesn't mean consoles are using 100% of the technology inside. For example, XB1 might only be using 75% of its hardware. DX12 wont change the chips, it will push more out of them and might increase it to 85% which will be a fair gain. Weaker chips don't need to be more powerful to out preform stronger chips. a later GPU running at 80% will underperform or be equal to a weaker chip running at 90% etc.

The XB1's GPU will never outperform the PS4s in a physical sense, however its CPU already does and DX12 will only increase the gap with its core balancing feature, making both console benefit in different areas. CPU bound games will run better on X1 while GPU bound games run better on PS4.

A fact a lot denied for a long time

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

The guy is pretty reasonable, there is not much that can be argued against what he says, this is just common sense to anyone who has followed the current crop of consoles since their release.

For those talking about the XB1 "CPU benefits" they should keep in mind that 1 - This is only a 6% over clock on what is arguably the lowest place there it could make a difference computing wise. 2 - We have yet to see a single game where those supposed advantages show up.

Also, The PS4's library is already pretty lean, and has been improving by moving compute intensive tasks to the GPU (like physics and other simulations) where it already has a 40% benefit (hense the difference in resolution/frame rate seen in many games).

The worst thing is that even the latest and greatest exclusives that were either shown or are about to be released (Forza 6, Rise of The Thomb Raider, Halo 5, Scalebound) mostly look bland compared to PS4 exclusives, there is still nothing like Killzone:SF, Infamous:SS/First Light, Drive Club, etc. heck, they look on par with the re-releases of Uncahrted 2 & 3 maybe :-/ all the while running at lower resolution and/or frame rate... I would say only Quantum Break looks close to Infamous:SS in therms of image quality... but it's not released yet, so we have to see how it look in the end.

Can't wait for the NX to come along, if the rumors are true it will be more powerful than the PS4... which will make the XB1 even more absurd in therms of processing power.

Are we really still talking about this stuff? I'm so bored for the gaming world.

Gamingbolt for the past 2 years in a nutshell.

Hey Sony fans Xbox one is better, uproar.
Hey Microsoft fans, ps4 is better, uproar

Rinse, repeat. Seriously, gamingbolt is trash. Same goes for DSOG and every other clickbait baiting scumbag site out there.

I take offense to that! My writing may suck, but it has something their's doesn't; self-deprecating humour...

On second thought, carry on.

I assure you the phrase I wanted to use in place of "trash" was unfit for forum consumption.

Also this guy from dive sounds like another fan boy of Sony. No self-respecting dev uses the term "Xbone", nor almost always exclusively praises one console. On to the next.

I own a PS4 but I really want an XB1. It's just too expensive in EU.

The Xone CPU clocks 9% faster than the basically identical PS4 CPU. And right now it seems that the Xbox OS is slightly more CPU-efficient. The latter might change though.

Now for DX12 in very short: It's more efficient. THough probably not that more efficient than the Xbox API is right now in every part. One very important thing is it actually is more CPU efficient. It's also more efficient on the GPU side as it seems but again, some things benefit more than others.

So i wouldn't actually expect miracles.

Another thing is that Sony can otpimize their system as well. And they will, sooner or later.
