Forums - Gaming - So I just built a PC and here's my take on the whole Consoles VS PC argument

Once you go big, 1440p on a monitor just isn't as immersive anymore.

Why instead? You can also connect a PC to an 1080p projector.

My Sony "Pearl" (VPL-VW50) serves me well since 2008 when I'm in the mood for console and/or PC games (or watching blu-rays) on the big screen.

This whole value thing is getting a bit silly now since I can see the goal posts shifting.

PC gaming definitely does save you money in the long run and yes it;s just as good for "pure gaming".

Clearly thats what "some" console fans has to do, everytime they get an answer they call bullshit or change the goal post to something else.

Even with the OP its clear what his plan was with this thread. In fact ive asked him twice now for pics of his rig with no response. Im starting to think maybe the whole OP was lies??.

Yeah I've noticed it oevr time, so much so that 4k didn't matter but apparently nwo it does in this topic: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=209455&page=1

All that talk of how 4k doesn't matter at all when it comes to PC but people are now trying to dream it being entirely possible with PS4 or even PS5 lol. I love it how each gen it doesn't matter when PC is ahead of the curve but when a console gets it later on in the game it apparently matters, this is what amazes me about the obsessive goal shifting.

I dunno about the OP though but the topic has more or less shifted to consoles>PC in terms of value and money/perf gains and all that jazz, ona  place like VGC you're not going to really get a well thought out civil discussion without one side shifting posts.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

As if "some" race master pc fans aren't doing the same. There is crap and moving the goal post from both sides and not just one and for me there is no saving more money on pc if you know how to invest money like me in console gaming.

I only read the OP and none of the replies but uh.. PC's are cheaper. And more powerful. And though I prefer gaming on consoles since that's where my friends/family are, I can easily admit they make for superior gaming devices as well.

And to be fair, if you're going to include things like a monitor and OS and keyboard for the PC then you should also include a TV for consoles. And don't forget there's no online charge for PC's, and you can ALWAYS get new release games for a lot less.

You can actually build a PC that easily outperforms current gen consoles and save a lot of money in the long run.

1.But not in the same time you have to choose what you want either you spend less money and can't play the blockbuster games or you spend a shit ton on money in a pc and can play them.

2.If it's so easy then show it, what pc can easily outperform current gen consoles and saves you a lot on money in the long run (a pc you don't have to upgrade I guess?) and can play the next let's say GTA?

1. "Shit ton" is subjective. I spent $750 or so on my latest PC, can play any game I want, and all at settings that far exceed PS4 and Xbone. That might be a shit ton of money to you, that was a good investment for me for a PC that will last me years, longer than a console. My PS4 and Xbone are already dated in terms of hardware. And yes, you accomplish both at the same time.

2. I already built a custom PC that exceeds my consoles. And I'll eventually upgrade this one. And build another. Just like in 3-4 years I'll buy the next Playstation and Xbox consoles. As far as saving money goes, it's simple mathematics. I'll even go the cheaper console route and pick the PS4. Retailed for $400. I have bought one year of PS+, that's $50. It's about to run out. This time next month it will be $500 I have played on it. You save $20-40 on new retail games if you buy on PC, especially with sites like G2A. Multiply that by however many games you wanna buy and the savings add up quickly. Hell, you buy 5 AAA retail games a year even at $40 on PC and you have saved $100. I don't pay $50 for PS+ and in two years that would have been $300 saved. You buy more games it's even bigger. Plus even non AAA games are way cheaper. The trash indies and good indies you see on consoles are cheaper on PC.

As for running the next GTA... idk? I haven't seen the specs for it. But I don't see why not.

Bolded: How? They can run all games comming the next few years without problems how is that dated? How many gaming pcs outhere can do that?

This price listing you made is so much bullshit I don't even take that seriously of course everyone is making the list so their preference is in a better light (for you it's the pc for me that would be the ps console)

Dated as in the hardware is weak. Sorry, but when these new consoles struggle to run their software at less than 1080p60 on a constant basis, thats dated.

There is nothing bullshit about any price listing i made.

My PC config is already a geforce SLI...so far so good. Consoles are mostly good riddance unless exclusives come my way.

PS: the point being that PCs comparable to consoles become cheaper over time. To buy a PC marginally better in performance to consoles at the time of launch would have cost you atleast three times. Check the prices of AMD 8000 series  and Geforce GTX 780 in 2013. To me 1080p 60 FPS has become a standard due to SLI gaming habit. Can't get back to. Will have tough time trying some exclusives on the consoles.

What SLI setup you going with?, I've got a single Zotac 980 and I'm already thinking of going SLI next year since the prices of 980's should go down even further by next year and already rodered a G-sync monitor since my current BenQ isn't cutting it for me (that and I fancied a dual monitor setup).

So let's see my price listing:

+300€ Console (plus I got one game)

+50 Ps+ (one year)

-100 I saved from the ps+ one year subscription (today I saved 15 bucks for Metro the last night as a ps+ subscriber for example)

+25€ for every game I buy for retail (never buy games for more than 30 bucks and never will)

+ 3-10 bucks for some digital games

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's 600€-650€ for a ps4 with 11 retail games, 10 digital games and 20 Indie Games, would I really spend less money for a pc? I still would have 150€-100€ save before you have your 750€ pc.

Like I said nothing is expensive if you know how to spend your money (pc and console gaming).

Geforce GTX 880 M SLI the laptop GPU with upgrade possible. I'm eyeing on that 980 M SLI, the only hitch being that it is still Direct X 11.2.

Also I just figured that in about another year or two I;m wondering if Nvisia/AMD will eventually show their new flagship cards since those are most likely to fully support DX 12 natively (recent talks about the current cvards only supporting 12 but not fully).

And a mobile user could chime in and say they play plenty of awesome games for absolutely nothing. I guess that means console gaming is a waste of money.

No matter how you wanna slice it, software and services cost wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy less on PC. More than enough to offset the higher initial cost for hardware, unless you go crazy with your rig or are one of those enthusiasts who constantly upgrades.
