Forums - Nintendo - Unverified dev guesses: NX might more powerful than PS4/XBONE, based on a PC demo...

No, it is however, safe to assume Nintendo have shipped stress test software that runs on PC, and over a WiiU devkit if connected.

...That's all it is? NX stress test software? Then what are all these reports about the NX likely including a mobile unit? That's a hardware assumption.

If it gets full 3rd party support and proper online I must just get a Nintendo console again.

My guess is, people saw the stress test demo (which by very nature doesnt run smoothly), and the stress test demo was running such a way on a mid to high end PC, and rather than understand that stress test software is meant to strain the hardware continuously until it either passes or fails, they assumed it was a portion of the SDK and that it was "software that is meant to run smoothly on the NX" so they connected the wrong dots.

I heard back from other studios too, and beyond the stress test demo, no actual SDK software or Devkit hardware for NX has shipped.

Ugh. I was skeptical about a lot of things in that article, but the dev kits being out wasn't one of them. This has to be the most annoying game news fuck up I've witnessed all year.

It's also annoying that dev kits haven't shipped yet, or that nobody has debunked this yet.

To me this makes sense.   If late 2016 truly was a targeted release date, SDK's and dev units would have been released months ago.  Well before E3.  And most likely would have included a system unveiling at E3 (following the trend for all home console announcements).

Agreed about the fuck up factor.   This seems liek someone with little knowledge of the industry witnessed something they weren't supposed to see and ran with it with more assumptions than a Michael Bay focus test group.

Reminds me of people using the latest 3DMark and wondering why their top of the line CPU runs certain benchmarks at just 1 fps....only in the opposite viewpoint.

Don't get me wrong - I'm still 100% sure the NX will be out next holiday.

The thing that annoys me is that Tamaki has heard the same news, separately from WSJ hearing it. He's usually extremely reliable. What is up with that?

Wall Street Journal is small? As far as I know thats one of the biggest newspapers out there.

Wrong article.  There are two separate articles floating around.  The first came from the WSJ simply stating SDK's are being sent out and that the chips are industry leading (that could mean process model, power, TDP, performance per watt, etc...who knows).  The second article from a tiny site claiming the chips are more powerful than the just release Skylake Core i7.

Ah, I see.
Yeah, it's hard to trust someone from a small forum like that one. We'll just have to wait and see.

maybe we will get some leaks before e3

It could happen soon, they wouldnt give out a stress test kit for no reason at all, it will likely also work on the eventual wiiu development unit, allowing for easy comparison between performance of certain functions between the wiiu and nx, making pinpointing areas where the newer system is either slower or faster to aid with future development.
It does seem odd that they would give it out and not the SDK/Devkit though, I wouldnt be surprised if they start shipping this or next month though.

A 6th gen core i7 ?

Yeah, I'm going to call BS on that ...

Edit: They said "near top-of-the-line graphics card" ? So are we getting a GTX 980 or an R9 390X ?

Anyways if none of those things happen someone remind to bump this thread in a year or so ...

Yea, it is BS.  Like Sound wave also pointed out, it's probably a small site trying to get more traffic.  We already had a Gaf insider say that it was going to not even going to be on par with the PS4.  Not sure how accurate he will be.  We also had Nintendo say they weren't aiming for powerful/expensive HW.

Realistically, I'm expecting a console on par or slightly more powerful than the PS4.  Of course, I don't see that doing much against a $199-$249 PS4Not with a PS5, that will probably be 4x-5x more powerful than the PS4, coming out a year or so after the NX.

NX is very likely coming next year, so in best case PS4 will have $300 price point than, and certainly PS5 will not come in 2017, more likely 2019-2020.

PS4 MRP can be $300 but we can get it cheaper (or) at least a free game everywhere. Also PS5 will come in 2018 in order to catch up with VR games along with PS4 backwards compatiblity so users who want can upgrade without losing anything and existing users will get another 2 years of support still. NX wont come next year mostly as they need lauch library and still console has not been announced so its not possible for 3rd party or first party developers to get ready in one year for launch and NX cant compete cheaper or similar priced PS4/XB1 3 years game library too.
