Back to?

Back to another Half Gen?

Im sick about Nintendo releasing consoles in the middle of an on going generation.

They either future proof the NX, so when the Ps5 and Xbox 2(?) are announced, they wont dwarf it with their specs, or they embrace the "we dont compete directly with Sony and Microsoft" and release a console with whatever specs.

When exactly before Nintendo released console in middle of an going generation!?

And about consoles, it not all about high specs.

So... if the NX is to be released in 2016 we can expect nothing but ports of old games(1 year development cycle). Fantastic... nope, i don't buy it. 2017 earliest.

So you saying developers can't port games that are currently in development for PS4/XboxOne!?

They just had to troll us with "industry leading specs" dammit. I remember when OG Wii was supposed to make us say "wow" with the graphics.

Now If Nintendo released dev kits in 2016 I'd be a little more optimistic, but 2015...I suppose they could give powerful 28nm kits, within the ballpark of the final product locked down in the much more power efficient 14/16nm... but I have my doubts lol Nintendo never had a console that consumed power over 50w.

I... don't like the wording used in this article. The way it's worded, it sounds like the only actual news is that dev kits are out. Everything else is worded in such a way that they seem to just be mimicking online speculation, rather than quoting sourced ideas.

The "industry-leading chips" and "mobile unit" points are especially worded strangely. "People familiar with the development plans?" Who? In what context? Do they mean people with dev kits? Do they mean people who have been following the news, and are thus familiar with what they plan to do? It's all very vague.

Yea, this article is full of imprecision and vagueness. For example Dragon quest XI.It says in the article that is for sure comming for NX(or gives that impression anyway) but the truth is that Square has just said that they are considering that option. Its sentences like that that makes this article very strange. It almost looks like a sensationalist article

Why would SE mentioned NX (console we don't know anything) version of DQ XI at all if they are just considering it!?

Reality was that they annuced games for NX but after Nintendo give them a call and said to them "we still did not reveal NX and nobody knows what NX is, but you already announcing games, WTF!?", SE stated that they only considering NX version of game.

Even with power with 50W Nintendo can make pretty strong hardware in 2016, remember Wii U launch i 2012. and has only 30W power consumption with 64nm.

My initial thoughts

- Bye bye Wii U and 3DS. This pretty much seals a fall 2016 launch, I don't think it's that late either if the system can get ports of PS4/XB1/PC titles fairly easily one year gives plenty of time for devs to port over games if they start now, Japanese 3rd parties probably have had kits even longer.

- So the hybrid concept was basically true? Maybe 1.2 TFLOP console + 300 TFLOP portable that can share games and combine together at home for 1.5 TFLOP+ at 14/16nm? Something like that? This is likely going to have to be $299.99 minimum at launch.

- We should be getting some leaks now that kits are out in the wild.

Those dev kits are coming in too late for a 2016 release. Sure the ps4 ones came months before, but if people remember, the only third party the ps4 had on launch were ports. It's biggest releases (killzone, infamous) were all first party. The NX can't afford to have a delayed launch, otherwise it will fail to take momentum from the ps4 and will enter the same fate as the wii u

You forgetting Wii U has very weak launch lineup and pretty high price, NX can have much stronger lineup (new Mario 3D, Zelda U port are almost certain and probably Retros game) and very likely price tag $250-300, add to that strong marketing (not confusing and with bad name of console), solid gimmick (maybe fusion with handheld), and you will have much better situation than Wii Us.

Not worried about the launch window. Moving Zelda to the NX launch window buys them all the time in the world, and EAD Tokyo is due for another Mario platformer for late 2016/early 2017 too ... so that 1-2 punch basically would be enough with the usual other types of games (like 3rd party ports) to ensure a very strong launch.

I think they purposely also denied the Wii U a "real" Animal Crossing game, and that game is deep into development for NX as a result and will be able to release early in its life cycle (within the first 8-9 months).

Minimum!? $299 will be maximum of home console price, PS4 is curently at $350 and Xbox One will soon probably go on $300. I say NX home console price $249-299.

About power, somewhere around Xbox One power in order to have enough power for straight PS4/Xbox One ports, and in 2016. they can easy make hardware with Xbox One similar power and price it with $250.

It was 40nm gpu/45 cpu for U.

Anyway, I'd love to stop talking about power, because the whole point of "Fusion" is it doesn't rely on certain 3rd party standards, but the topic doesnt seem to go away.  Nintendo simply will not compete when there are two other major companies going that route, and will try to be different & undercutting/cheaper.  I'd love for Ninty to be competitive, but it doesnt seem to be in the cards as of now, and reporting things like "industry leading specs" only adds fuel to the wet dream that only leads to a sad awakening lol.
