Forums - Nintendo - UPDATE - Nintendo Begins Distributing Software Kit for New NX Platform

Beginning of a new era, I suppose.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

If the dev kits are out we should get reliable spec leaks soon right?

if they are just beginning to distribute dev kits and actually launch next year then shitty 3rd party support is already confirmed. less than a year to ready your games is not enough.

Actually, 1 year before launch for third party dev kits is quite far ahead of what is typical, it's usually under 6 months. PS4 dev kits were only reported going out just a few months ahead of launch, for comparison's sake.

Yes, but these developers where already in the know what to expect far before that date, so they could already do most of the programming beforehand. This being Nintendo, I doubt really anyone outside of the company really knows what to come and thus earlier SDKs are a necessity, especially if some new peripherials are included.

I am 99% sure that's not even remotely how that works.

Don't give ideas! Things will naturally come at some point...

And to answer: Not very soon. But around early next year I'd imagine we start getting "real" roumors as to what we can imagine for the NX to be. But this next few weeks will be trolling. Don't trust the internet.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Awesome! Can't wait to see what they have in store.

It'll be awhile before I figure out how to do one of these. :P

Copied from GAF, because it has much more credence than this article.

From Nintendo's new dev site thing:

Our new website makes publishing simple

This new website had one goal—to make your lives easier. We’re hard at work making more and better tools to help you self-publish, digitally publish, and publish at retail.
Our plans are big, because yours are

We’ll soon have advanced project tracking and ROM submission, project-based message boards and more, helping you with every step—from concept, to publish, to counting your accolades. And as always, you’ll have the best global developer support team ever, right from the start, making the Nintendo Developer Portal your go-to resource.

Nintendo Dev Interface

Our newest gem in the box is the NDI Client. NDI stands for Nintendo Dev Interface, but it’s really going to be your new best friend. The NDI Client will help make sure you have the optimal development environment on your development system — by downloading and installing it all for you! You can tailor it to the platform you’re developing for, the SDK you want, even the region you’re working in. It allows easy download of all the relevant guidelines and documentation you need to do your work. It even allows you to update the firmware of certain development kits.

This article was released an hour ago, right AFTER this tweet from Tamaki:

In other words, this is just a smartly worded copy-paste article of internet speculation, and should only be taken as such.

Nice catch.

So it begins, the Nintendomination

Programmed on PC and then ported to PS4/Xbox ONE since they are so similar in hardware was surely possible during that timeframe. Since both SONY and Microsoft asked the major publishers what they would like to have in their respective future consoles, it's very likely they knew what to come, just not exactly how powerful they would end up. Otherwise they would only have had a few months for all the programming, which is just not nearly enough for an entire game.
