Forums - Nintendo - UPDATE - Nintendo Begins Distributing Software Kit for New NX Platform

The only thing we can take from this news is that some NX dev kits where sent to a bunch of unspecified third party developers.

Everything else is speculation/rumor.

So... if the NX is to be released in 2016 we can expect nothing but ports of old games(1 year development cycle). Fantastic... nope, i don't buy it. 2017 earliest.

I was under the impression that Nintendo were alreadz giving development kits in E3.Oh well
But this just serves to reinforce the idea that NX will likely be comming at 2017 the earliest. If they really are just giving development kits now, companies will just have 1 year to get the hang of it, and develop and/or port games to it.Its just too little time, and i dont think Nintendo is going to simply ditch third party.

Back to?

Back to another Half Gen?

Im sick about Nintendo releasing consoles in the middle of an on going generation.

They either future proof the NX, so when the Ps5 and Xbox 2(?) are announced, they wont dwarf it with their specs, or they embrace the "we dont compete directly with Sony and Microsoft" and release a console with whatever specs.

Precisely. And wait to see another NX related threads starting to emerge again. Its quite funny to see fans are more enthusiastic than the company which doesnt care about its fanbase.

This article was released an hour ago, right AFTER this tweet from Tamaki:

In other words, this is just a smartly worded copy-paste article of internet speculation, and should only be taken as such.

if they are just beginning to distribute dev kits and actually launch next year then shitty 3rd party support is already confirmed. less than a year to ready your games is not enough.

Which is why I think the 2016 launch is debunked with this reveal. And the SDKs are generally evolving a bit in their early days, so it will take some time until there is a definitive, powerful SDK for NX out there. Even simple porting of a multiplat game does take quite some time as the PC port of Arkham Knight proved all too well, let alone developing a game from scratch.

Thus, I can see summer 2017 as the earliest release date for NX, and holiday season of that year as the obvious one.

I... don't like the wording used in this article. The way it's worded, it sounds like the only actual news is that dev kits are out. Everything else is worded in such a way that they seem to just be mimicking online speculation, rather than quoting sourced ideas.

The "industry-leading chips" and "mobile unit" points are especially worded strangely. "People familiar with the development plans?" Who? In what context? Do they mean people with dev kits? Do they mean people who have been following the news, and are thus familiar with what they plan to do? It's all very vague.

Yea, this article is full of imprecision and vagueness. For example Dragon quest XI.It says in the article that is for sure comming for NX(or gives that impression anyway) but the truth is that Square has just said that they are considering that option. Its sentences like that that makes this article very strange. It almost looks like a sensationalist article

Nintendo would likely include both a console and at least one mobile unit that could either be used in conjunction with the console or taken on the road for separate use. They also said Nintendo would aim to put industry-leading chips in the NX devices, after criticism that the Wii U’s capabilities didn’t match those of competitors.

Yes! It's the Fusion project! Celebrations!

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I was under the impression that PS4 dev kits only came out months before launch. This shouldn't be an issue at all.

Industry leading chips, eh? I don't want to get my hopes up....
