Hello everyone, 

I am using my school's wifi network but I wonder if its safe or if people-school officials and information technology service workers- can have access to my online activity? I don't trust the people at my school and worst there's a guy who works at the schooI's ITS-help desk- who holds a grudge against me(For silly reasons by the way.)

 I got worried today as I was fixing a printer and he seemed to know the issues I've been having when trying to connect the school's WiFi. l live off-campus so the reception is poor. Granted there's probably a notification list-for the week's work- that everyone who works at ITS can have access to. Still It got me worrid that this guy knew too much for his own good.

What advice do you have? Should I stop using the school's WiFi? Or is there's a program I can download for protection? I am a PC noob so I need some solid advice.

You know, there's probably a disclosure policy for your school's network. By that, I mean that there should only be specific instances where it is used.

That said, you can always use Tor or not rely on the network - getting yourself your own internet connection.

on a school internet connection they can see where every single 1 and 0 comes from and goes to your PC don't use it for anything you don't want people to know you use/look at

Um, use your phone's data instead of wifi for those type of instances...

to be honest there is nothing that strange about someone in college looking at porn, also to use mobile data for large bandwidth videos but college net for sending emails is a bit pointless considering legit family friendly internet uses less bandwidth normally.

Anyway.. Use a VPN.. That way it will show you are looking at a VPN but not what your are browsing further to.. Look at it if its your accessing another computer to browse.. They can see that you accessed the other computer but not what your doing on it..

Besides.. 99% of the time they are just monitoring your bandwidth.. Everyone watches porn on every network

Unless you're partaking in illegal activities that would ping your student account anyways, does it matter? I mean, oh no, the guy will find out you watch porn? Either way, if he tries to abuse his position, you can get him fired and reprimanded. It isn't as if he can just freely abuse his information access and get off free and clear.

If you are someone who torrents and such, don't do it on your school connection. If your account gets pinged for it, that person will get to have a field day potentially getting your internet privileges redacted.
