Forums - Gaming - Is this the worse game review you've ever read on a reputable site?

Check this absolute brainfart out:

Some people say the term "social justice warrior" is unfair or unnecessarily demeaning in some way. I think perhaps this article can be the future counter-argument to that claim.

This guy literally reviews the game based the fact that it doesn't represent how awful prisons really are and instead tries to use them to make a fun game.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to tuck my brain back up my arse.

Tbh, I get that its annoying when people are constantly trying to force a political issue but its also equally annoying to the people who constantly complain about it, cause really your just 2 people complaining about things who are feeding off of each other, 2 sides of the same coin, so id stop making a fuss about things like this and just ignore it

And this is how a failed attempt to write for The New Yorker looks like.

It's overly focused on critiquing the themes. I couldn't tell whether the game was fun to play or not.

NZ Gamers review of Majora's Mask 3D is the worst review I've read in recent memory.

Wasn't it clear? The game can't be fun. Prisons are bad and you should feel bad!

The first comment on the article is gold. lol

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

it has to be among the worst-  just another pretentious prick trying to convince someone he knows something and/or trying to get some SJW street cred-  the guy even says the gameplay is great but gives it a terrible score because it does not fit w his view of prison-  Naturally I m sure he knows little of prison outside of what he sees on tv and or what he wishes to believe

The worst one I read is Colin Moriarty's (IGN) incredibly insulting Another World review: http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/07/11/another-world-20th-anniversary-review

Well that was a waste of my time...

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

its a bad excuse for a review. But it isn't even close to the worst. The worst I reserve for so called journalists that post paid reviews or reviews with undeclared bias. we have seen enough of that over the last few years to make this one just a really badly written piece of work, possibly done to get attention to an unknown site? remember even negative publicity is good publicity.

Prison Architect is not shy about its distortions and oversights, necessary sacrifices on the thirsty altar of “fun.”

[stuff] betray Introversion’s prime directive: the pleasure of the player.

The trouble arises when viewing Prison Architect as anything other than a particularly captivating and colorful ant farm—which is exactly what Introversion wants its players to do.

Does this guy even know what games are about? That's 3 instances where he lists the game being fun as a negative. As if anyone would buy a videogame to educate themselves about the US carceral system.

Signature goes here!

This thing's not a review, it's an essay. He references how prisons are supposed to work, what they started as, how the inmates interact with each other, etc. Reviews are meant to be opinion pieces, and there is FAR too much historical reference and context in this review. Good on him for doing the research, but my God, when he does voice his opinion it is skewed and he's obviously using the piece just to stand up for something. Reading this was probably the most bored I've ever been reading a review, I felt like I was correcting an english paper or something.
