Forums - Microsoft Discussion - No elite controller needed...

I didn't see this posted, so Per the Ars Technica article:

Microsoft saves gamers $150, brings Xbox One button remapping to all controllers

Joins Sony in offering the much requested feature, for free.

Remappable controls—a feature previously thought to be exclusive to Microsoft's upcoming £129 ($150) Elite controller—are coming to all Xbox One gamepads, Microsoft has said. The feature will allow Xbox users to reassign the buttons on their controller to their liking, including swapping around the placement of buttons like A and B. Button remapping came to the PlayStation 4 earlier this year via the 2.50 firmware update.

Microsoft confirmed the news in a tweet, saying that remapping is "coming for all controllers soon." On the PS4, the feature has proved useful not just for muscle memory reasons and for players to get a potential leg-up on the competition, but also for those with physical disabilities who might not be able to comfortably push certain buttons.

Button remapping was previously confirmed for the Xbox One Elite controller. At a price of £129, it wasn't exactly a cheap way to get access to the feature. The controller does, however, sport a number of other niceties to justify its price tag, including the ability to swap out the d-pad and analogue sticks, as well as paddles that can be programmed to take the place of any input on the controller.

While Microsoft did not confirm when remapping would deploy to all controllers, the new Xbox One experience is due to launch this November. It brings with it the highly anticipated Xbox 360 backwards compatibility feature, as well as an overhaul of the frustrating Xbox One user interface.

I always thought that this was going to be the case...

It is near the end of the end....

I completely forgot PS4 had this feature, probably won't use it but nice to know if I fuck up a finger I can swap shit around.

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

I hope they do the feature better than Sony and allow button remapping to be on a game by game basis instead of overall which presumably will make Sony do the same later.

...

Not sure why all games don't have button mapping anyway. I played that Hardware: Rivals beta and would have liked controls similar to Run N Gun controls on Twisted Metal, alas, not a choice. (left and right d-pad does nothing, it's a driving game, they should stear).

The main thing here is that surely, with Xbox and PS4 you'd have to swap the buttons back each different game you play no?

Hmm, pie.

With Xbox One you'll have unlimited profiles set up in an app for your button mapping to change to whatever layout you want at the time. At least that's how the Elite controller will work. With 2 of those profiles set onto a switch on the controller itself so you can flip over to a specific profile in a snap.

That's something at least, meaning I presume the functionality on the non-elite controllers would be to go into a menu and select the profile you want.
