Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo no longer in the list of top 100 brands

Yeah, now that I think about it, a lot of the companies on this list have some sort of financial arm. I wonder what their metric here is, because this certainly doesn't look like the market caps of the companies listed on the Nikkei 225.

Today (according to yahoo finance) the market cap of Sony was ~30.8 Billion USD and Nintendo was ~21.4 Billion USD.

But I think the ranking calculations are based more on the relative size of the company with a heavy reliance on revenue while also factoring in their marketing budget.

But who knows what else goes into it.

Nintendo also spent 10.0% of their Revenue on Advertising, which is pretty high.  Sony by comparison Sony spent 5.4% of their Revenue on Advertising.

But because Sony is such a large company with many consumer sectors its total marketing budget is around 7½ times larger than Nintendo's.

Here is a ranking of Japanese companies with the amount they spent on advertising via Tokyo Keizai Online. -  http://toyokeizai.net/articles/-/82100?page=2

here is rough translation of the chart:

As you can see Sony (1) is at the top of the list, Nintendo (20) the only videogame campany and Rohto Pharmaceutical (38) being the only other company besides Nintendo spending more than 10% of its revenue on advertising.

Rank Company Advertising Buget Revenue % of Revenue spent on Advertising
1 Sony 4,444 82,158 5.4
20 Nintendo 548 5,497 10.0
38 Rohto Pharmaceutical Co. 256 1,517 16.9

On the bright side, they still rank high on the Japanese listing.

Had no idea asics is a Japanese company.

They are doing bad so not surprising, hopefully they bounce back

Ouch... 10% on publicity with a 5.497 revenue. For me it's too much.
Is Nintendo so lost that they are starting to make mistakes on the financial side too?
And about the japanese top 30 list, to me is sad to see, that even in japan the brand is losing value -33% is heavy!
For instance, Sony is in a path of recover, and now is only -3%.

Well they make round $300m profit in 2014. financial year and around 80m in first quarter of this year. They revenue is weak (not such surprise because this probably will be their worst selling generation of consoles), but they making profit. So no, Nintendo doesn't make mistakes on the financial side too, they making good profit even with weak sales.

It should be noted that Microsoft is 4 on that list and Sony 68 which shows you how insignificant the Playstation brand is in the whole scheme of business.

that's why Microsoft should call their Video games Product Microsoft 1 instead of Xbox One, so people will be familiar with Microsoft instead with Xbox which no one cares about lol.

I'm really pathetic and have no friends. Please excuse the trolling message that used to be here, I don't know any better.
