Forums - Gaming - how can DMC devil may cry have a higher metacritic score than 4 on new gen? is Metacritic biased towards Japan?

It's a fairly standard remaster job of an almost 8 year old game (that was already considered unfinished by many). The DMC4 remaster actually scored slightly better than i was expecting.

On a personal note, i actually enjoyed DMC more than DMC4. I can understand why some people hated the reboot so much, it did make some pretty bizarre design changes (at least from the perspective of the original series), but DMC4 just feels really dated to me now.

I get the point and I agree

(Anyway I am curious why are people saying DMC4 is an incomplete game. I played it on ps3 many years ago and I do not know what are you guys reffering to )

Missions 2-11 (one's just a tutorial that really doesn't even count) are going through a series of areas playing as Nero. A city, a castle, a forest, and a military base. Missions 12-17 are going back through those exact same areas as Dante in reverse order. Mission 18 is a boss fight, mission 19 is re-fighting almost all of the game's bosses over again, and mission 20 is the final boss.

Basically a LOT of the game is recycled. If memory serves, Capcom cut down on DMC4's development time by a full year or so. Probably has something to do with it.

Thank you

Yeah, now I remember haha

Go ask the critics about that ...

DmC is f#cking awful from the combat to the story IMO ...

DMC4 is quite good but it is showing it's age and looking back the game did feel incomplete or had it's content recycled but DmC did have more improvements so overall when factoring these things so it made sense in the critics view to give it a higher score ...

In short critics =/= fans ...

Even as an incomplete game DMC 4 sold better than DmC. Capcom will hopefully take notice of this.

I mean, it could be the fact that reviewers are now seeing that DmC was actually pretty good and that the DMC fans were touting as the "good" one wasn't perfect after all. Any decent reviews of DmC were immediately discredited and the gaming media saw how hated it was by fanboys.

Also the fact that they probably should've re-ported the other original DMC games from the HD Collection and included that. Y'know, instead of releasing two of the five games as remasters on 8th gen consoles, when Capcom is clearly going to port up the HD Collection too.

And lastly, no physical version. I'm sure that hurt at least subliminally, that Capcom couldn't care enough to release this definitive port on disc outside of Japan when they did so for its sequel's port.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

Release more incomplete games?

DmC is a good game, but it was trying to reboot something that didnt need a reboot. That was the problem.

Yes, DmC is good, but Devil may cry 4 is good aswell. It was a puzzling decision by capcom. Personally, i would be ok with both sub-series continuing with a game in one or the other in and out. But the problem is, if i had to make a choice, i would rather have DMC5 than DmC2. I would like to play both though.

it doesnt matter what you think, it only matters that devil may cry 4 originally had a higher meta score than dmc on the PS360. And its 20€ cheaper.

eh DMC4 came out rather early last gen and that's exactly what it feels like.
I prefer the newer one.

Do you prefer paying twice for it as well? Devil May Cry 4 is a better value than any indie game. That game should have a much higher score to be honest

because its a good game? the only people i ever see hating on this are fans of the originals
