Forums - Movies & TV - NA Attack on Titan movie screening an English subtitle disaster

- we could say that fans who have been waiting to see the Attack on Titan film in San Francisco and apparently Columbus theater were trolled by fate when the film subtitles froze to one line that said:

"I've been waiting for this day!"

- instead of hardcoded subtitles like in past films, today’s subtitles are added digitally, so it is argued it could be a software problem

- there have been reports of other NA screening going without a hitch

- seem like subtitles got stuck for 20 or 30 minutes until the theater people stopped the movie and retarted it again, giving voucher for those not willing to watch it again

- In North America, the movie is slated to run at nearly 300 theaters.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

I was supposed to attend a screening last night, but had to attend a funeral. Had no idea how subtitles worked these days and never witnessed such an issue.

Wow.

Just... lol...

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Well the movie's a disaster anyway...

Funimation is a magnet for controversy it seems.

Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,

Has this ever happened before? Feel bad for folks who sat through this.

I hate how it's only playing for a couple days. And on weekdays to make matters worse 😒

Went and saw the movie last night here in Raleigh,NC. No problems with the playing of the movie.

Now the movie itself....I actually enjoyed. I'll leave it at that for obvious spoiler issues. I'd say half the theater loved it and the other half was upset.

did people asked for refund? or how did they fix it?

In the OP I mentioned that they restarted the film and gave vouchers to those who didn't want to watch it again from the start.

Funimation issued a comment regarding this issue:

Both Funimation and fans of Attack on Titan have been waiting for the day when the live action movie would open in theaters in the U.S. Unfortunately, fans at a handful of theaters last night did not have the experience that we hoped they would have.

As reported online, there was a glitch in the middle of the Attack on Titan Part 1 which caused the subtitles to freeze on a single line of text for 10 or more minutes while the movie continued to play. Funimation became aware of the subtitle problem on Monday, September 28. All exhibitors were alerted to the issue and worked with Deluxe to provide a simple fix that same day to correct the software error. Funimation and Deluxe followed up with all exhibitors the next day – Tuesday, September 29.

The handful of theaters that experienced the subtitle problem last night did not implement the fix, which resulted in the glitch during their screenings. Our theatrical division and Deluxe are in contact with these specific locations to confirm the fix is being implemented and what, if any, assistance Funimation can provide to ensure this problem does not occur again during the remainder of the Attack on Titan Part 1 theatrical run. Funimation will be hardcoding subtitles on Attack on Titan Part 2 and other future releases to prevent this problem from happening again.

Seems like old wins against new this time.
