Are we gonna pretend that AAA games' scores don't get inflated all time? Please..
Astonishing amount of downplaying for a game you never heard of. Just wow.

This. Honestly, I beat the game last week and I think it's one of the best RPGs I've ever played. Seriously, it deserves the acclaim it's getting imo. I'm surprised that a lot of people are bashing this game without even playing it, saying it looks cheap. Money doesn't make a good game, sorry.

IKR? The game will continue turning heads and we'll know where the score is gonna settle. I love how most people are, not only downplaying the meta score, but also ignoring the user score.
14 reviews, 13 of them gave minimum 90 now.
It does get the high score also because of the price like pretty much all indie or smaller games would get lower scores if they would cost 60 bucks (same with Minecraft, Journey, Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime and whatever) but if you like these smaller games this is still a great indicator that this game could be perfect for you as long as you like the genre.
The thing is, for a lower price you don't have to offer as much to deserve the same score. It's like when they review cars, a Ferrari can get 400 of 500 points and a small Ford can get the same score in a magazine. We all know that the Ferrari has more to offer, from quality to power but in the category the Ford is in it is still a 400/500. But if the Ford would have the same price as the Ferrari and compete against it, it would get maybe a 100/500 lol
That's what I always say, comparing scores of 60 bucks games with 10 or 20 bucks games in forums doesn't make much sense (mostly when it's about console warz) because they are reviewed with the price in mind. But that doesn't mean that you will have less fun with a cheaper game, it just often lacks something which you would have to implement to get a good score as full price title. (Minecraft no story, Undertale has simple graphics, Journey is very short and so on...). All these games don't need to offer what 60 bucks games need to get the same score which is only logical because they are cheaper and the devs would ask for more money if they would be comparable with the more expensive games.
Really quirky and fun gameplay and successful execution of a lot of interesting mechanics and concepts. Concepts I've seen attempted before, yes, but not quite like this.
Unfortunately, I couldn't get past the writing and meme-ish humor (I did beat the game and got the true ending). For everything I gave a chuckle, there was something else that made my eyes roll. As mechanically and conceptually good as it is, I don't see this being a classic. It doesn't have that timeless quality that a game like Earthbound has. I played Earthbound for the first time last year, and that humor really resonated with me, even after all this time. 20 years from now, I feel as though Undertale's writing and humor will seem like a head-scratching mess that won't hold up under scrutiny.
Still, it's definitely an accomplishment, especially for one person. The music is great and the boss battles in particular are very creative and fun.
Dat downplay.
Watched some of it on Jim Sterling's channel and it did look like quite an interesting game.

Mostly positive so far. 94 on gamerankings as well.
