Forums - Sony - Uncharted Collection Review Thread - Meta: 85

86 is very good IMO. Its obvious by now remaster wont get the same treatment as when they were new. TLOU was an exception because it came late in the gen, therefore it was still fresh.

The worst part isn't the low scores... is just that you praise the game as being really good and them low score it...

But no matter what, the games have basically the same quality but a new paint coat, so expect a nice experience.

Okay. Maybe it's not a conspiracy. Maybe the Uncharted series has always been about having the flashiest graphics, great presentation, decent tps mechanics, and a fun story.

Maybe the graphics aren't state of the art anymore, the Uncharted style of "platforming" isn't fresh anymore, and the games are getting the score they deserve. Not a bad score by any means. Let's not get out panties in a bunch.

We used to say this all of the time last gen: games that got their high scores because of graphics aren't going to be timeless. The Uncharted series--especially the second one--were amongst the best in their time. But new tech will always make older games less impressive. In my personal opinion, GeoW Ultimate Edition hasn't aged that well. It's an 8/10 game now. It happens. For all of its value, the Nathan Drake collection is a collection of games that aren't 10/10 material right now. Uncharted 4? I'm sure that game will set the world on fire. Let's just enjoy what we got and let it prepare us for what's next.

The only issue is that some reviews writing and score where a little discrepant. A lot of praises but low score.

Lol at Videogamers review.

Currently own:

  • Ps4

Currently playing: Witcher 3, Walking Dead S1/2, GTA5, Dying Light, Tomb Raider Remaster, MGS Ground Zeros

At least Videogamer gave Gears a 90 so they're not entirely against remasters.

But that happens with a lot of games, Splatoon had a ton of reviews saying things like "the best shooter in years", "the most refreshing IP in a long time", "the best online experience of the generation", etc etc and then you see the score and they gave it something like a 7 - 7.5 that makes you think WTF!? but is how it works.

completely ridiculous I agree...

If they trashed the IP and gave bad score it would be consistent (even if idiotic score)...

On the other side we have had a lot of cases of text saying the game was bad or full of bugs (like AC Unity) but good scores.

86 is still a great score, I'm just curious as to why The Last of Us Remastered got a 95 overall (The same as the original game), whereas this is two points lower than the lowest in the trilogy, which was Drake's Fortune with an 88... maybe because back when The Last of Us was remastered, remastering was a "new" thing for this gen, whereas now we're getting them pretty much every month so they're being seen in a different light? Like reviewers are saying "Yeah, they're three great games... but it's just a remaster", which is why points are being deducted.

... Just a theory anyways, but either way the score is still decent, although would've liked to see it at least on par with Drake's Fortune at an 88... oh well, still gonna' be buying, playing, and loving it! :)

It's because TLOU is still the only true next gen game and the PS4 enabled it to run in 1080p/60fps.

I don't have a problem with the scores in general, but the videogamer video review is almost insultingly bad for 3 reasons.

- he actually uses the whole ludonarative dissonance crap as an argument
- he almost argues that these games are worse for being 60fps
- and he finally just throws an almost straight up insult at the fans and the games by saying that Uncharted wouldn't be remotely as popular as it is if it wasn't for exclusivity and console wars.

Point 1 I agree. Point 2, I don't think he was saying that, but I see how you could infer it.

Point 3 though, I disagree with you.

The first Uncharted was really good, but it wasn't holy crap amazing. It definitely received a boost from its exclusivity. The series only went from pretty great to straight-up incredible with its second iteration. Certainly not a Sony-specific thing, but its not out of line to suggest that exclusivity helps good games be described as great games, and great games be described as timeless.

More generally, this is a really good score. Remember, this is a remaster of a set of games, the oldest of which is now pushing a decade gone. The scores are also in line with other remaster scores of recent times.

Yep... we can't say for sure being exclusive impact the score, but certainly affects hype and sales.
