These are rough approximations of adaptation Season 1 - Book 1 Now, they can rework aspects so parts of books 4/5 they cut are in season 6 and book 6 and 7 could be epics on par with book 3 so makes sense they divide it up. Of course at this stage the show could take a left turn as seen in season 5 and just be its own thing so hard to say how much of that story is left to tell or where it will go. Personally as much as I love the show, the books are where I fell in love with the series a decade or so ago so my main interest in Winds of Winter and Dream of Summer. |
Man, i forgot book 3 was split into two seasons. I guess the same could have been done for 4+5, but they gutted the Dornish plot, and from waht i hear pushed the Ironborn stuff to season 6. I'm curious as to what effect that might have on the pacing. They must know that most of the viewership won't care about all the new characters that'll have to be introduced if they include the Kingsmoot this late in the series. Maybe they'll pull a Dorne on that too. :
But I agree with you. The show can't really compare to the books, especially when it comes to the breadth and depth of the world. There's just way too much going on to even fit into 8 seasons. TBH, as necessary as they are, I haven't much cared for any of the show's changes to the books either, outside of the reworking of Cercei's character, and Hardhome.
Ofcourse, at this point, I don't expect GRRM to ever finish the series, so I'll take what I can get. I first read ASOIAF when I was 12(way too young, I know) and he's only put out one book since then. It's... disheartening, to say the least
