You can always choose to believe in anything.

I choose to believe every girl gamer I talk to on the web/games is semi-nude and extremely hot. Is it remotely true, probably not, but that doesn't mean I can't believe in it.

I believe a good chunk of them are guys, and possibly gay guys, but know what? I like your belief system better, I'll try to visualize that going forward, cause it's just more fun.

See I always just think they're all straight guy power gamers who act like girls because it pays off to be girl gamers in gaming now a days since girl characters don't have the arbitrary stat differences anymore.

I mean... if it's a FPS. If a girl kicks your ass some gamers (stupidly) are going to be demoralized by that or make them let their guard down, play more erratic in other words... higher kill count.

If it's a MMORPG. Girls are more likely to just get stuff free and have people tank for them or hang out with them.

If it's a message board, people are more likely to agree with you, less likely to disagree with you and if they do likely suggest your a dude and make themselves look like an ass and ruin their arguement even if they have a point.

A lot of girl gamers actually pretend to be guys just to avoid all the annoying extra attention.

So, what you are saying is I should just believe all people on games/web are semi nude extremely hot girls??

PERFECT!!

Hey, how's it going? Send me a pic?

I got some hot n00dz in my profile album, lulz.

I believe whatever I want to believe. Like say, I am G-d. Nobody can prove me wrong without killing me, and killing me makes everybody lose.

On a more personal level, of course you can choose what to believe. It becomes harder to change certain core beliefs you hold as you get older, but it can most certainly be done.
Can you give me one example of a belief that you have that can change, right now, this instant? We're talking about a belief here, not an opinion or a preference.
[edit: never mind this]

I think that beliefs can be changed but not without significant pressure being brought to bear either through force of will or circumstance.  Some people have spoken of a dramatic experience or epiphany bringing about a sudden change in beliefs, but it could also be a slow process, usually influenced by one's actions, that gradually alters one's beliefs until they can be very different from what they were.  I suppose that's why they have those sayings about being careful what mask you wear lest you become that mask.  If someone said to himself, "It would be great if I held X belief", and lived his life according to that belief even if he didn't have it in his heart, I am sure it would get into his heart eventually.  But no matter how strong one's will is, beliefs are too important to be able to be changed quickly for something as insubstantial as a whim.

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.

I have the most epic death scene ever in VGChartz Mafia.  Thanks WordsofWisdom!

Apologies for the late reply; I wasn't here for a lot of the day.

I regularly adjust my beliefs about how the world works upon the acquisition of newfound data. Being interested in physics and chemistry, it's more or less a given that the more I learn, the more my belief of how the world works changes to acknowledge what I've learned. It's more than just expanding what I already know; it's discarding past beliefs based on assumption and replacing them with beliefs based upon evidence.

I never claimed that you can change your beliefs in an instant, incidentally; just that you can change them. If it weren't possible, then there would be no conversions to and from religions.

^thats not true..if god were to come down from heaven and start up a conversation with an atheist are you telling me that wouldn't change their beliefs in a day?

A die hard aethiest would probably either believe that it's a scam, or a mental illness before they'd be willing to accept it was God.

But atheism itself is a mental illness and a scam...

I´m just kiddind, eveyone can believe what they want and should not be disrespected for it... unless its conspiracy theorys...then yes they should be disrespected...

what about people that belive spamming to be the ultimate form of communication?

OT: we are a product of our breeding, hence our believe is shaped for us, not by us. mostly.

All athiest deep down battle with their soul about the existence of God. They say "soul I don't believe" the soul says "o yes you do". And this is a repeated cycle until the atheist death. They are all doubters and use extreme amount of intensive rhetoric to spread their "truth". blah blah blah...save me the garbage....Atheism is a joke. Bottom line they hate God and Christians...oh and accountability for their evil deeds.

^you need to stop attacking peoples beliefs or lack there of.

"Back off, man. I'm a scientist."

Your theories are the worst kind of popular tripe, your methods are sloppy, and your conclusions are highly questionable! You are a poor scientist. Especially if you think the moon landing was faked.

I hate coming into interesting topics late......

Yes. I can choose what I believe. I can tell myself that I'm in love, even when I know I'm not. I can tell myself that I'm the hottest guy in the room, even when I know I'm not. I can make myself believe that, even though the guy in front of me is a killer, I could take him down if I need to. And even though I'm not very religious, I believe that I'm going to Heaven.

Yes. Without being delusional, I can make myself believe. It gets me through the hard times.

Off topic: Once, when I was about 16, I told my 8 year old sister that she was God. I told her that she created me, and when she wasn't around, I didn't exist. I begged her not to punish me when she remembered. We talked about it for a long time (that day). I think she believed me!! Now, I don't even think she remembers.
