Forums - Gaming - Edge: The 100 Greatest Video Games

This list is just wrong Imo, accpet Advance Wars at number 19 I agree with that. Everything else though is just plain offensive.

Easier on me? Lol. No, you did just what Teeqoz said, you tried to direct the discussion in another direction because you simply can't legitimately justify why Minecraft deserves a spot in the top 10. I never said Chrono Trigger doesn't deserve something similar, but as you might know there are 10 places in a top 10 so there could well be space for both.

You're absolutely right. I can't legitimately justify why minecraft deserves a spot in the top 10. You got me. Neither can anyone else, lol.

I now see the light, it certainly shouldn't be there.

I believe Carl justified it on the previous page. Twice.

*Edit* Sorry, see halfway down page 12.

Thats the entire point Ive been making to you. Different genres have different gameplay mechanics and thus, appeal to different audiences. Different games excel at different things. Its why we cannot directly compare Gran Turismo to Final Fantasy. We cannot directly compare Call of Duty to Mario Kart. We cannot directly compare Hearthstone to Fire Emblem. We cannot directly compare Pokémon to The Last of Us. We cannot directly compare Super Mario 64 to Portal.

Different games excel at different things, the point here is that Minecraft is the absolute pinnacle of the sandbox survival genre. What Minecraft does, it does extremely well and EDGE rewarded that with a place in the Top 10.

A videogame doesnt have to have an epic story and orchestrated soundtrack to be fun. Thats what it all boils down to... Fun.

I agree with the rest of the post, but nope, it doesn't all boils down to fun.

As you said games excels at different things, fun is not mandatory at all into a game.

There can be sad, depressing, frustating, and yet really good and amazing games at doing that.

That's how much diverse gaming is, it all boils down to the player experience with it.

Agreed. Fatal Frame Crimson Butterfly and Resident Evil 1 were TERRIFYING, but some of the best games ever. Atmosphere, soundtrack, and pacing really helped these games along. It's a dynamic.

Didn't need all that, all it needed was to be better than minecraft (which it is). It doesn't have to excel at everything, it just needs to excel at SOMETHING, which minecraft doesn't

Okay, so what kind of replies are these to people who have been civil with you over the discussion? Between these 2 posts and you ignoring or arrogantly swatting away literally every reasonable post made over the last 3 hours or so, Im convinced youre now just arguing to piss people off.

I highly suggest you leave this thread, if thats the way youre going to continue to behave.

I always think lists should be broken down by system or generation. It really is hard to measure Super Mario Bros. against Super Mario Galaxy 2.

To me the true test of a game is doing this every year and seeing which ones hold and which fall off. I love many of these games, but I know in five years majority will be replaced.

I have responded to those people by asking them if they felt creativity and accessibility (their legitimate arguements) can be placed higher than story, atmosphere, soundtrack, pacing, character development, ect. But being as we are all just going around in circles I can put the pieces together. Though, I don't see how that is swatting or ignoring anything.

More like top 10 recent games that everyone likes. Who gives a crap about EDGE. Stopped reading that crap in 2005.

You facepalmed people for having different opinions to you, then simply dismissed and ignored several other peoples posts explaining just why they think Minecraft deserves the spot. Disagreeing with people is fine, but what youre doing is being rude.

As I said in my previous post, tread lightly. If you want to reply to this, take it to a PM.

Great, I forgot a word, if that's all you want to focus on , then we're done here. Minecrafts position is well justified and this thread has given more than enough reasons for that, if you don't want to see that and want to instead dance around actually legitimately and at least somewhat respectfully justifying why Minecraft doesn't deserve the spot it has, and no, saying "this is not in the top ten so Minecraft doesn't deserve to be" is not a legitimate reason, then I don't see a point in continuing this discussion.

If they called "100 games we like a lot" list, it would be a fine list... But stating these are the 100 greatest games... Just no.
