Actually, the wii gave sony a piece of humble pie with an ass whooping. The Xbox 360 sold the same amount as the PS3. So both are eating their share of pie.

Xbox 360 lost money for Microsoft, but the ps3 lost so much money for Sony it canceled the ps2 and ps1 profits alone.

The Wii didn't do anything to the PS3. Sony sawed their own feet off with the PS3 launch and the customers ran to Microsoft. The competition didn't hold back the PS3, Sony did.

It's a toss up for me between the original Xbox and the 360. I think the original had better exclusive titles but the 360 had a better library overall.

I highly doubt that coming from you, ol' snoopy but I'll play right along with your line of thought. MS has lost money with every console of theirs.

I can agree with most of that but that doesn't change the fact that the wii outsold the Xbox 360 and PS3. 

I'm not denying that fact, I'm simply pointing out that Sony gave their market share directly to Microsoft and the Wii had virtually no effect on the PS3's performance. I also wouldn't call such a close race an ass whooping.

I think it had the most unique library for the xbox brand still. It felt like it had game experiences that you couldn't find on gc or the ps2, and to differentiate yourself against that kind of competition is something.

Yes technically, but the Wii (after the sales failure of the Wii U) feels more like a fluke or an anomaly (even though targeting the casual audience and using motion controls as its main drive played out very well) Nintendo had not beaten Sony with the N64 or gamecube by a long shot. 

The MS-to-Sony ass whooping felt more systematic. They outplayed Sony at every turn, although Sony was able to catch up and surpass MS ever so slightly but not without some consequences.
